Getting Started with Kindle
The first time you turn on your new Kindle, the Set Up Your Kindle guide will help you choose your preferred language, connect your Kindle to a Wi-Fi network, and register your Kindle.
Set Your Language
Use the 5-way controller to select your preferred language from the list. Select "OK" on the popup screen to confirm your language preference.
Tip: See Navigating your Kindle for information on how to use the onscreen keyboard on your Kindle.
Note: Your Kindle screen will go blank while it is loading your language preference.
Set Up Your Kindle will next guide you to connect your Kindle to a Wi-Fi network. Once you've connected your Kindle wirelessly, you can search for and download ebooks and other content from the Kindle Store, right from your Kindle.
Use the 5-way controller to select Connect to Wi-Fi. A list of available Wi-Fi networks is displayed.
You can connect wirelessly through your home Wi-Fi network, or places that offer Wi-Fi access, such as a hotel or your favourite café. Your Kindle automatically detects nearby Wi-Fi networks that broadcast their network name.
Select "connect" next to the network you wish
to join. If you see a lock icon next to "connect," you'll need to enter
the Wi-Fi network password to connect.
Use the symbol keyboard to enter any numbers or symbols, and uppercase keyboard for uppercase characters. Learn more about using your Kindle's onscreen keyboard.
The password is the one used to set up your Wi-Fi network; not your Amazon account password. If you don't know this password, please contact the person who set up your Wi-Fi network.

After you've successfully connected your Kindle to a Wi-Fi network, Set Up Your Kindle will guide you to register your Kindle.
If you have an Amazon account: Enter the e-mail and password of your Amazon account. Select "submit" using the 5-way controller. Your name will appear as the Registered User when registration is complete.
If you do not have an Amazon account: Use the 5-way controller to select this option and follow the onscreen instructions to set up a new account.

Setting Parental Controls on Kindle
With the latest software update available for Kindle, you can enable Parental Controls to restrict access to the Web Browser, the Kindle Store, and Archived Items.
Parents may use this feature to prevent children from purchasing content, accessing content not downloaded to the device, or browsing online.
To set Parental Controls:
When Parental Controls
are set, a lock icon appears at the top of the screen.
Setting Parental Controls also prevents access to the De-registration and Reset to Factory Defaults options on the Settings page of your Kindle.
Removing or Modifying Parental Controls
To remove or change Parental Controls, you'll need to enter your password. If you forget your password, you'll need to reset your Kindle to factory defaults by entering "resetmykindle" as the Parental Controls password.
After resetting, you'll need to re-register your Kindle from the Settings screen. You will then be able to download your content again from Archived Items or Manage Your Kindle.
