Getting Started with KindleThe first time you turn on your new Kindle, the Set Up Your Kindle guide will help you choose your preferred language, connect your Kindle to a Wi-Fi network, and register your Kindle. Set Your LanguageUse the 5-way controller to select your preferred language from the list. Select "OK" on the popup screen to confirm your language preference.

Once you've connected your Kindle wirelessly, you can search for and download ebooks and other content from the Kindle Store, right from your Kindle. ![]() Use the 5-way controller to select Connect to Wi-Fi. A list of available Wi-Fi networks is displayed. You can connect wirelessly through your home Wi-Fi network, or places that offer Wi-Fi access, such as a hotel or your favourite café. Your Kindle automatically detects nearby Wi-Fi networks that broadcast their network name. Select "connect" next to the network you wish
to join. If you see a lock icon next to "connect," you'll need to enter
the Wi-Fi network password to connect. Use the symbol keyboard to enter any numbers or symbols, and uppercase keyboard for uppercase characters. Learn more about using your Kindle's onscreen keyboard. The password is the one used to set up your Wi-Fi network; not your Amazon account password. If you don't know this password, please contact the person who set up your Wi-Fi network. Connecting Your Kindle Wirelessly:Watch this video to learn how to wirelessly connect your Kindle using Wi-Fi. Once you have successfully connected to a Wi-Fi network, your Kindle will automatically reconnect to it when it detects a signal from that network. Having difficulty connecting? Try our Connecting with Wifi page.Register Your KindleAfter you've successfully connected your Kindle to a Wi-Fi network, Set Up Your Kindle will guide you to register your Kindle. ![]() If you have an Amazon account: Enter the e-mail and password of your Amazon account. Select "submit" using the 5-way controller. Your name will appear as the Registered User when registration is complete. If you do not have an Amazon account: Use the 5-way controller to select this option and follow the onscreen instructions to set up a new account. Set Up 1-Click PaymentYou'll purchase content in the Kindle Store with your Amazon 1-Click Payment Method.
You don't have to enable 1-Click for all of your Amazon.co.uk purchases, but you must have a valid Digital 1-Click payment method specified to place an order in the Kindle Store Start ShoppingOnce you've connected your device wirelessly, registered your Kindle, and set up your 1-Click Payment Method, you can start shopping for Kindle books and more from the Kindle Store right from your device. With your Kindle connected wirelessly, press Menu and choose "Shop in Kindle Store" to start downloading Kindle books and other content. All Kindle purchases from the Kindle Store are automatically backed-up online at Amazon and available through your Archived Items on your Kindle or online at the Manage Your Kindle page. Setting Parental Controls on KindleWith the latest software update available for Kindle, you can enable Parental Controls to restrict access to the Web Browser, the Kindle Store, and Archived Items. Parents may use this feature to prevent children from purchasing content, accessing content not downloaded to the device, or browsing online. To set Parental Controls:

Setting Parental Controls also prevents access to the De-registration and Reset to Factory Defaults options on the Settings page of your Kindle. Removing or Modifying Parental ControlsTo remove or change Parental Controls, you'll need to enter your password. If you forget your password, you'll need to reset your Kindle to factory defaults by entering "resetmykindle" as the Parental Controls password. After resetting, you'll need to re-register your Kindle from the Settings screen. You will then be able to download your content again from Archived Items or Manage Your Kindle. Questions?
