I am sure there is a little princess book about moving house (I want to go home?) and also starting school. It might be worth checking out the entire series as they usually relate to events in an ordinary childs life. And I am not sure if it is appropriate (it is perfect for parents but not sure about school) I love you forever by Robert Munsch (all about a child growing up and his mother watching him change, of course she changes too and he eventually cares for her - but it not about death) It is a beautiful book. He is a famous canadian writer and again - sure he has other books that would cover changes in life.

Mog and the New Baby would be a good picture book for the younger ones - the peaceful life of everyone's favourite Forgetful Cat is disrupted by a new baby in the family, but Mog soon learns to love it.
