Hi Sue - sorry only just saw your message - I think you must mean my Chicken in the Orchard Pie (though you could use rabbit) which is in the Devon chapter of my new book Orchards in the Oasis - over 50% discount on Amazon! Best wishes - Josceline Dimbleby
I think Sue must mean my Chicken in the Orchard Pie (though she could use rabbit) - a delicious pie with cider which is in my new book Orchards in the Oasis - more than 50% discount on Amazon! Josceline DimblebyOrchards in the Oasis: Travels, Food and Memories
I used to make (and love) JD's roast beef with smoked oysters (or mussels!) and two sauces - one of those was cucumber and something like creme fraiche. Now I would like to make it again but can't find the recipe. Please could I be reminded what book the recipe's in, so I can either find it or get another copy?! many thanks :)
You've reminded me how good that simple recipe was - I must do it again. As it was in one of my long ago books - Favourite Food, published by Allen Lane in 1983 (help!) which is long out of print you might not be able to find a second hand copy, but if you give me your e mail address I can send you a scan of it. It might have been in one of my Sainsbury books too. Hope you don't mind me telling you that my latest book Orchards in the Oasis (look it up on Amazon) has lots of tasty recipes in it as well as lots of stories and travels during my life, all illustrated with photogrpahs old and new. Best wishes, Josceline Dimbleby
How great to have a reply from you! Thankfully, my mum found me the recipe in her copy of of Festive Food and Party Pieces. What a brilliant book! And must be older than 1893? She's just dictated the recipe to me - "Roast beef stuffed with smoked oysters with cucumber sauce", and I'm off to make it for a very special occasion in Turkey! Between my mum and I we have a pretty impressive collection of your books. But, there's always room for another! I'm a fan!
I know that this link is over a year old but wonder whether you pick up on old links as I too am looking for this recipe 'Roast beef stuffed with smoked oysters with cucumber sauce' which I used to make in the 80s and 90s. I used to have the book it was in but somehow cannot find it any more so if you did read this and could scan me a copy I would be so grateful. my email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org. If anybody else reads this and has the recipe I would be so grateful to receive it. Thanks
If anyone else has lost copies of my old Sainsbury books I have just replied to Sarah Mortimer, and also told her that I have rewritten, revised and added to the one that was the bestseller of them all throughout the 1980's - Marvellous Meals with Mince - which is being published in a very stylish new edition with lovely photographs by Quadrille on September 13th 2012.
I'm looking for the Christmas chocolate cake with cranberry filling with a kind of merengue type of icing. I cannot find my book since we moved house, there is another brilliant recipe which consists of a moulded frozen case filled with grated chocolate. These recipes are quite unique, can anyone help?
I happened to be sitting at my computer when this message came through just now. I see there are some copies of my original Cooking for Christmas which the recipe for the chocolate Christmas cake with cranberry filling and snow like American frosting came from on Amazon but a bit expensive. The lemon ice cream with grated chocolate inside was I think from another Sainsbury book of mine called Sweet Dreams (later editions called the more boring title of Sweets and Deserts) which you can probably find on Amazon as well. If you gave me your e mail I could probably scan the recipes and send them to you though quite a lot of Christmas cooking here at the moment! Josceline Dimbleby
Wow that was a super immediate reply! Thank you so much and thank you also for offering to scan the recipes across, that would be fantastic if you get the opportunity. I will definitely order Orchards in the Oasis. Merry Christmas!
