I'm now on my third Peter Barton book. All have been a fresh and informative view on WW1. The juxtaposition of excellent battlefield maps, previously unseen photographs, panoramas and text with so many personal accounts gives a life to the accounts like no other. One really feels as if you are sharing these dreadful experiences. The more I read of these times the more I am convinced the real enemies were the politicians, the generals, the terrain and the weather. Read the soldiers letters in the books and see if you agree.
