I would recommend David Eddings (earlier works like the Belgariad) and Robin Hobb. They're both amazing although the books are a little more complex then David Gemmell's books.

Andrew Vachss is a Crime author but Gemmell-esk, David Copperfield by Dickens, John Connelly's books read in sequence.

The important thing to consider is that you will never feel the way you do about any other book the way you feel when you read Gemmell. He was profoundly capable of writing flawed characters seeking the right path. His was a way of living which was born of his experience and talents. We are all of us unique, he was exceptional! I miss him greatly.

Veyland says:
Joe Abercrombie is the best i've found (since the sad loss of David Gemmell). Grimy characters and gruesome battles.

Tom Lloyd, Raymond E Feist, Brandon Sanderson, George R R Martin, Robert Jordan, L E Moddesit are all good authors. Hope you enjoy some of them.
