February83 says:
An early review of Sampson's Perfect Lives ends with the words: "I'm sorry, Polly, but this book has bored me. You need to leave home..."
The personalised nature of this comment represents a crossing of the line from criticism into sheer nastiness. It says much more about the reviewer than about Polly Sampson, and reveals a gaping chasm of resentment, highlighted by her assumptions about Sampson's private life. Comments like this, with its ludicrously patronising tone, have no place in a grown-up literary forum.
