I want to buy a Kindle for my SCI-FI habit but I can't see myself investing in the new technology if the published content is as poor as the Banks release discussed on the reviews for the new book. Is it really that difficult to make the Kindle version as good or better than the book?

I wouldnt let this dissuade you from buying a kindle all you have to do is avoid the 'PRICE SET BY PUBLISHER BOOKS' like the plague. If ALL kindle owners did this then only reasonably priced books would be sold therby forcing the publshers to rethink their agency pricing model. Or set a personal book price limit of say £5 and never go over This is what I do and I find it works very well as this means I never buy a book at a price set by the publisher...

I wonder if Mr Banks realises the number of sales he is missing out on?

I haven't been impressed with what I've seen of the Kindle. The device is great; the content varies.
I'm sticking with paper for now anyway. I've already got hundreds of books. It would be a different matter if I could buy paper and electronic formats together, or even 'upgrade' my paper books.
