It seems crazy to me in this era of identical best sellers, sub-standard thrillers and flat, badly drawn characters that East Texas legend JOE R. LANSDALE does not attract plaudits on the scale that his writing deserves.
Joe's off the wall imagination, superb characterisation, gifted ear for dialogue and fight scenes that come from the mind of a genuine Hall of Fame martial artist (which he is) all add up to fantastic story telling.
Whether it be the hilarious Hap Collins and Leonard Pine mystery series ('Devil Red,' 'Vanilla Ride,' 'Captains Outrageous,' 'Mucho Mojo' etc) or the darker novels ('The Bottoms,' 'A Fine Dark Line') or the zombie horror books- 'The Drive-In,' Joe is a master.
Add graphic novels, westerns, steampunk ('Flaming Zeppelins') and just about any other genre Joe cares to tackle- crisp, sharp, believable dialogue, fast paced plots and great storytelling are at the core of everything Joe R. Lansdale writes.
So here it is, share your appreciation. What is your all-time Lansdale Top Five? How did you find out about him? In fact, whatever you want. It could be Leonard Pine's funniest quotes, it's up to you.
Let's get it started.
