5.0 out of 5 stars Simple design and good play value, 18 Mar. 2015

I thought I'd give this a go as it was noticeably cheaper than a similar toy I'd previous bought, so worth risking. Turned out to be a great success! My younger cats (2 year olds) give it a real bashing when the mood takes them, although the older ones (7 year olds) consider such toys beneath their dignity. The design looks flimsy but it is in fact quite robust, and the ball runs very freely round the track. Being open at the sides means greater ease of access; they cats don't seem interested in the top openings, though. The spring-mounted pom-pom has limited appeal, however. Almost immediately, I found it had come off, but it was quite intact and easy to re-fit. I subsequently bought another of these for a friend's cats, and this was equally well received.

This review is from: Blake Of Scotland Yard [DVD] (DVD)
"RECKLESS ACTION", "SPECTACULAR THRILLS", "BAFFLING PLOT" OK, 1 out of those 3 at least - "baffling plot" OH yes!

I kept thinking it was a silent movie and they'd suddenly remembered the mikes. Blake is only "of" Scotland Yard insofar as he's retired from there in order to assist in the development of a death ray. This is NOT a British film, it's American and it sounds as if most of the actors are American. There's a load of hilarious creepy characters, a baffling plot, a great cameo by what looks like Eddie Munster, some wild French cafe-culture, a lot of running up and down stairs, a baffling plot, the dangerous son who's "not right in the head" (oh, oh! - suppose he escapes?) and you can even make out some of the dialogue. And a baffling plot.

At the first attempt, I gave up after about 20 minutes. With friends round, we together managed the whole thing, but you really DO need a sense of humour - bear in mind this dates from 1936 and don't expect anything like the technical or artistic quality of today's thrillers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but over-priced, 11 Oct. 2012

The quality was excellent - as you'd expect from BBC footage - but after forking out £7.99 for what I'd hoped would be a good souvenir of the occasion, I felt a bit cheated to find it was only 59 minutes long. At least most of it was of the river pageant - I would've liked more, tho.
