The Reluctant Fundamentalist
The Reluctant Fundamentalist
by Mohsin Hamid
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit average, 8 Feb. 2011
Not a particularly satisfying read on any level. Well written but the narrative voice is too often smarmy, and the characters too cut-out, to care how events unfold.

The frame narrative is also heavy-handed and obvious right up until the ultra-ambiguous ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, possibly his best, 15 Nov. 2010
This review is from: The Innocent (Paperback)
I've read a lot of McEwan's work and this is my favourite. It's a stunning read, thrilling, horrific and heartrending - it moved me more than any other book in recent memory.

2.0 out of 5 stars Follow the adventures of Dan Fisher, 1 Sept. 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Anyone who enjoyed previous Splinter Cells should probably avoid this. It's a very lush production, with good visuals and sound, but it has virtually nothing in common with the previous games in the series.

It's a fairly competent shooter, but not excellent - most of the game can be passed by exploiting bottlenecks in the linear levels, mowing the baddies down one by one from doorways. It's one of those games that gives you a lot of different gadgets but contains one dominant strategy, rendering many of the available tactics pointless. The sneaking element is minimal, so much so that the majority of the game involves fending off player-triggered ambushes. The single-player is short, and uneven.

The story, if it matters, is midjudged nonsense.

Don't bother with this if you are a fan of the series.
