4.0 out of 5 stars Use of weedkiller gel, 19 July 2013

The gel did what it says on the tin where the weed could be clearly seen to be a single specimen, signs first appearing after 2 weeks.
However, much of my problem was a solid mass of bindweed which I had neglected to deal with, covering large areas of climber rose & other shrubs. Dabbing on the gel in different areas of about 1sq.ft certainly killed some of that part, but because of the rambling nature of this pest & the impossibility of identifying how many shoots were involved because of thorns, I had to finally painstakingly remove as much as possible of the sub-surface weed by hand & am now awaiting the new growth which I shall tackle as soon as it appears by single dabs! Some of these will have to be applied by a long stick because of access problems to the plant concerned, but that should do the trick.

1. This item was bought to replace what appeared to be the exact replica of my defunct one.Instead I found that the internals had been re-arranged & a fuse was no longer fitted.
2. the fitting diagrams do not adequately explain the procedure & problems I encountered -it took me nearly an hour to fit that should have been just 15 mins because of poor design.
3.removal of the plastic dome to get at the internals requires careful insertion of a flat-bladed screwdriver in 4 lugs-great care needs to be taken to avoid cracking the dome or the light body, as it is a very tight fit.
4.It was necessary to remove the lamp holder(difficult as the screws were covered by the thick cabling to it)& the screw Terminal block complete to access the supply cable at rear to make the necessary connections-all this could have been avoided by more careful design.
5.Replacing the dome required sharp, heavy bangs on it with the worry of damaging one or more of the tiny plastic lugs.
6. if a Bishop tried to install this perched atop a ladder he would most likely want to kick a hole in a stained -glass window in frustration. There is no substitute for clear, written guidance

4.0 out of 5 stars Brother DCP-J140 printer, 4 Nov. 2012

Pros-Item supplied quickly all bits present. No USB cable supplied but no worries as I used existing one.Simple to operate, like the LCD display which does away with too many buttons. Easy setup.Print Quality seems fine. Did not use Wi-fi setup as I prefer the USB cable connection so cannot comment on that. The manual is easy to use(unlike some).
Cons-As paper is hidden there is no warning until paper actually runs out-minor point.
I note that there is no ink warning of low levels -if ink runs out the printer stops working- in some models you can carry on for a very short while as clearly the cartridge is not fully exhausted; so you need to have back-up ink available, or rely on fast supply.
General
Ink is not cheap which is why I chose this 4-ink cartridge type as most of my work is mono print, but aware that some colour is used even in that mode so will not need to waste other inks when one colour runs out, unlike the 2-cartridge types.
