5.0 out of 5 stars USING 110 VOLTAGE PRODUCTS IN THE UK, 26 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had purchased a rare xenon 16mm cine projector from the US and needed avoltage converter so that I could use it in the uk (240 v). This worked perfectly. One thing to be careful of is there is also a Hertz frequency difference which a converter cannot change. Fortunately the projector`s frequency could be changed fairly easily to operate in the UK. All perfect

5.0 out of 5 stars WELSHNESS AT ITS COMEDY BEST, 6 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Gavin and Stacey is a classic innovative series. There is beautiful characterisation, great locations (Barry is now firmly on the map). It is so good you need every episode and the Christmas special because each episode pops along filled with so much flavour that the feast is over before you can say "What`s occuring". The Blu Ray version is quite superb and of course in greater detail than you would have seen even on an HD broadcast.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL, 3 Feb. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This film is a beautiful work by F W Murnau. There is no need to explain the plot or other elements discussed elsewhere. This is an excellent transfer with no over clean up of the picture which could destroy its integrity. For me the acid test is projecting the blu ray on an HD projector on to a big screen as it was always meant to be seen. The results are like watching a pristine 35mm print - which we all know would be impossible today. The film is equally complemented by a very intelligent and wonderfully fitting music score. Priceless!

If you enjoyed the wonder of `The Artist` which by today`s standards should never have been made , you will love City Girl.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING FIRST NOVEL!, 15 Jan. 2012
Quite a remarkable first book from HG White. I found it hard to believe he hasn`t got a best seller hidden under another name. I did not expect an adventure founded in historical facts yet based in modern times to be both funny and thrilling. I expect to be seeing a lot more from HG. I notice a few reviewers have mentioned a film. I absolutely agree - what a thrilling big screen ride that would be.

Great film showcasing the story of Facebook but look out for the opposite end of the spectrum now in post producion - PANIC BUTTON which showcases the very real dangers of social networking. Putting your life on line puts your life on the line.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN INTELLIGENT FILM, 1 May 2009
This review is from: City Rats [DVD] (DVD)
If you are expecting The Business and want to sit back and be carried along then you would be disappointed - if however you are expecting an intelligent multi layered film that you have to think about and watch the threads come together or unwind with Danny and Tamar using method acting to a degree never seen before you will love it. If you are a fan of Danny Dyer or Tamar it will reinforce your opinion. Great, difficult, performances from Susan Lynch, Myanna Burring and Ray Panthaki. This is one you can watch several times to catch the detail you may have missed the first time round.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE INCREDIBLE MR ACORAH, 22 Feb. 2005
Whilst initially £19.99 may appear a little high for a single disc when you have viewed it you will be glad you bought it.
This is a fascinating account of Derek and his incredible work. Although I am open minded about such things, it is understandable that a sceptic may see Derek at work on a show like `Most Haunted` and think he must have done some research beforehand.
If you have any doubts about the authenticity of Derek and his work then look no further than this DVD which will wipe them away in one fell swoop. See him talk to complete strangers in the street and know so much about them, what has happened to them and what will happen.
There are some quite moving sections such as when the teenage lad in Liverpool, worried that his recently departed grandmother was angry with him before she died, is given peace by Derek. That is what this remarkable human being is all about helping people to know more about themselves and what is beyond this life and in doing that helping them to make the most of this life and be a more spiritual person because of it.
I have never met Derek Acorah but I will aim to do so at the earliest opportunity.
If you are pondering on whether to buy this DVD or not.....let me help you to decide....DO IT NOW Because it may change your life and only for the better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FILM ENTHUSIASTS DREAM, 15 Aug. 2003
This DVD recorder is a phenomonal piece of equipment. Other reviewers have mentioned its features, ease of use and as a superb DVD player as well and a recorder excellent value.
The great beauty with this equipment, especially when coupled with SKY+, is the ability to make DVD`s of movies at a fraction of the price in the high street.
Many films, especially classics and older titles, are unavailable on DVD. This machine will make DVDs in exactly the same quality as the source material for a fraction of an equivalent retail one.
If you`ve pondered about dvd+r or dvd-r, then be satisifed that the dvd-r format is the one. Greatest compatability is with dvd-r and the blank discs are less than half the price of dvd+r.
Incidentally, I have found BULK-PAQ blank dvd`s to be the most reliable, compatible with other machines and cost a little over £1 per disc.
If you do buy DVDs from the US then go for RCE friendly and region free.
You will notice I didn`t mention any negative points, that`s because there are not any!

Laurel And Hardy - March Of The Wooden Soldiers [1934] [DVD]
Laurel And Hardy - March Of The Wooden Soldiers [1934] [DVD]

2.0 out of 5 stars MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS, 29 Jun. 2001
March of the Wooden Soldiers (Babes in Toyland) is one of a few Laurel and Hardy features in which Hal Roach lost ownership. Over the years it has been reissued and mostly cut in the process on the grounds of the Bogeymen sequences being too grim or to remove some or all of the songs in a misguided attempt to concentrate Stan and Ollie`s scenes. It is only fairly recently that a complete pristine master has been produced and superbly computer colourised now looking better than it has for decades.
In its original form it is the best of the Laurel and Hardy operettas and, with its detailed studio created fantasy sets, is the most elaborate of all of their features.
The colour version is so carefully effected that it gives the appearance of an early Technicolour film providing an extra dimension and depth reinforcing a more credible Mickey Mouse and the Three Pigs which was not quite achieved in black and white.
Stan Laurel once said that his only regret about this film was that it had not been made in colour. This is probably the only Laurel and Hardy film to really benefit and be enhanced by an accurate colourisation.
The film is a successful attempt to appeal to all ages. It is interesting to note that Disney granted permission to use Mickey Mouse and the Three Pigs together with their theme song. Perhaps `Toyland` may just have given Walt some inspiration for his first Disneyland. In fact Disney studied this film quite closely and remade it under the original title `Babes in Toyland` with obvious mimics of Stan and Ollie, but it was a poor, jazzed-up, shadow of the original.
This version produced by Eureka Video is only mediocre The transfer, although black and white, appears to be taken from the colourised version. Picture quality and definition are good but the sound is unfortunately the original mono track and somewhat flat. It is interesting to note that the opening original MGM title and Board of Review certificate included in the US version is missing from the UK version of the film.
A still from `Bohemian Girl` is actually used on the DVD case which coupled with the only extra being a wonky transfer of `Hustling for Health` gives the impression that no one could really care less...
The best DVD of this film available is from the US by Goodtimes Video and available from AMAZON.com... It is also ALL region, so you do not even need a region free DVD player (although you will need an NTSC compatible TV, which most are now).
The US version is accurately and superbly colourised and the extras include the original theatrical trailer, short (1.5 mins) probably 16mm silent home movie of Stan and a 3.5 min sound interview of Ollie. The extras are of varying quality due to the source material.
Overall the UK version is a poor substitute for the US DVD which presents a high quality, excellent value, version of a delightful, enduring minor classic.
