5.0 out of 5 stars The Evolution of a Model Pro, 27 Mar. 2012
WWE presents Randy Orton: The Evolution of a Predator in an excellent DVD set. The documentary takes the idea of a sit down interview with a superstar & portrays it in an excellent on-the-road documentary. The DVD is set between Elimination Chamber 2011 & Wrestlemania 27 as Randy takes on CM Punk. We see the hard work Randy puts into his career, being on the road constantly, doing interviews on his "off days", & travelling all the time to put his body through hell for our entertainment.

This documentary is possibly the most personal & in-depth documentary that has been released by the WWE, Randy explains his career before wrestling, his struggle in leaving the marines, his drug addiction & how it lead him down a very bad path. Randy gives us the god's honest truth & doesn't hold back, he looks back on the immature upstart who started in the WWE to the model professional he has become.

A fantastically well put together DVD set & an excellent set for any WWE fan, disc 1 contains the documentary in its full & has two discs dedicated to some of Randy's favourite career matches.

3.0 out of 5 stars WWE ends 2011 with a more than adquate PPV, 23 Mar. 2012
WWE presents the third annual Tables Ladders & Chairs PPV & it was a mediocre PPV at best. The event consisted of 10 matches, that's more than Wrestlemania ended up having. However, as they say, it's quality over quantity. Surprisingly John Cena was not on the event at all, not even in a backstage altercation As usual of late a few matches were thrown in with zero build up & didn't add to the PPV at all. Matches thrown together were:

Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston © V Epico & Primo for the Tag team Championships
Beth Phoenix © V Kelly Kelly for the Divas Championship
Jack Swagger V Sheamus

I will now review each match individually while trying to avoid spoilers as best I can.

Match 1
United States Championship Match
Dolph Ziggler © V Zack Ryder

For the last few months Ryder has been petitioning for a united states title match, after beating world heavyweight champion Mark Henry due to outside interference he was granted his shot here. The match was electric & the crowd were firmly behind Ryder the entire time. Could the woo woo kid capture his first singles title in the WWE or would Ziggler once again retain his belt?

Match Rating - 7/10

Match 2
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Air-Boom (Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston) © V Epico & Primo

This was one of the matches not announced prior to the event (which I hate) & in all fairness to the four guys they put on a very adequate match, with little build up to the match it could have easily fell flat on it's face but all participants managed to keep the crowd alive.

Match Rating - 5/10

Match 3
Tables Match
Randy Orton V Wade Barrett

Since before Survivor Series these guys have been going at it full throttle & it came to a head here in a tables match. Both guys seemed to give it their all & Barrett was busted open during the event, if im being honest without spoiling too much the ending was pretty timid/sloppy in comparison to the match as a whole. If there was a better ending I would have given this a higher match rating.

Match Rating - 6.5/10

Match 4
Divas Championship Match
Beth Phoenix © V Kelly Kelly

A somewhat pointless match to give the divas some PPV time & the crowd a bathroom break (tee-hee!). I won't give this a match rating as that would affect my overall score.

Match 5
Sledgehammer Ladder Match
Triple H V Kevin Nash

Right, first of all, a sledgehammer ladder match is a match where a sledgehammer is suspended above the ring & the first to get it can use it. Lets not forget the fact that they are killing one another with steel ladders but hey-ho. Anyway this match was horrendous IMO, the fact both guys have had bad knee problems in the past meant that this was never going to be a wrestling clinic, but my god it was SLOOOOOOOOW. The match looked as if it was being played in slow motion.

Match rating - 5/10

Match 6
Sheamus V Jack Swagger

Extremely pointless match made backstage after Swagger insulted Teddy Long & Sheamus defended him. Match was pretty much what you would expect. Certainly not a PPV worthy match

Match Rating - 4.5/10

Match 7
Chair Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Mark Henry © V Big Show

This match was a train wreck, due to Mark carrying an injury it didn't make for good viewing at all. I wasn't exactly expecting a wrestling clinic but this was poor. The surprise after the match ended added to my viewing pleasure & I will incorporate this into my match rating.

Match rating - 6/10

Match 8
Intercontinental Championship Match
Cody Rhodes © V Booker T

This match was supposed to start earlier in the night, however Cody attacked Booker twice during the event postponing the event. The match itself was adequate & fitted the purpose it was required. It gave Cody a decent storyline while not making any of the current mid-card faces look weak as he steam rolled over them.

Match rating - 6/10

Match 9
Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match for the WWE Championship
CM Punk V The Miz V Alberto Del Rio

This was hand down match of the night, all 3 men went at it & put on a fantastic spectacle, the actual highlight of the match for me was Del Rio's ring announcer being pushed from the ladder in the ring to the tables outside (SICK!). Throughout the match all 3 men looked like they could have won. A really well worked ending as well!

Match Rating - 8/10

So for the 8 matches that I reviewed they receive an overall of 48/80
Giving it an approval rating of 60% for me resulting in 3/5 stars!

Very decent PPV that set the WWE up well for a potentially good 2012.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rock's Epic Journey So Far..., 19 Mar. 2012
The Epic Journey of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the second release of a box set for "The Great One" & this set certainly lives up to his nickname. The documentary is excellently put together with interviews from The Rock himself, Vince McMahon, HHH, Jim Ross, Ron Simmons, Mick Foley & many more. We see the evolution of the rock from that day at Survivor Series in Madison Square Gardens to his return in 2011 while going into detail how The Rock felt at each stage of his career. The DVD is packed with terrific matches which have listed below for reference (don't know why Amazon do not supply this, but that is neither here nor there). Regardless of what people say, this DVD shows just how much The Rock loves the WWE & what he has done for the business as a whole. The DVD is in the format of a 2 hour documentary followed by the matches on a separate disc rather than them inter-twining. The documentary portion of the set is disc 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jennifer Aniston Makes This Dark Humour Sparkle..., 11 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Horrible Bosses [DVD] [2011] (DVD)
This summer there weren't many comedies that I was looking forward to, they all seemed re-hashes of old movies & other ones just didn't look funny. After seeing the trailer for Horrible Bosses I knew it would be one of the best comedies of the year. What I don't understand is people saying "there aren't many laughs" or "its not that funny", it's not supposed to be a laugh out loud comedy. The film is a dark comedy, meaning the jokes are dark & you aren't supposed to be laughing your head off, obviously there are a few instances when this happens.

Anyway the film is about 3 friends, Nick, Kurt & Dale who all hate their boss, from a psycho boss who forces Nick into drinking whisky at around 9am, a party boy boss who wants to fire the fat people & of course the dentist who is actually a sexual deviant.

When at a bar they joke about killing their bosses until they actually realise that they could do it, after debating it they decide they should try it, they meet a man who will be their "murder consultant". Will the 3 guys with no experience in killing people manage to pull off killing their bosses without being expected?

This is a brilliant comedy with a star studded cast featuring Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston & Jamie Foxx.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two & a Half Men Complete Collection (So Far)..., 8 Aug. 2011
Well where to start with Two & a Half Men, quite simple one of (if not) the best comedies produced from the States.

The show follows Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) as he takes in his recently divorced brother Alan (Jon Cryer) & his son Jake (Angus T Jones). After Alan is thrown out by his manipulative ex-wife Judith (Marin Hinkle) he still tries to reconcile with her.

Alan & Charlie are complete opposites, Charlie is a womanising bachelor who writes jingles & later kids songs for a living, where as his brother is a compulsively neat chiropractor and control-freak. They do share a hatred for their mother Evelyn (Holland Taylor) in common.

Other fairly regular characters include Charlie's cleaning lady Berta (Conchata Farrell) and his rich, self-confessed stalker neighbour Rose (Melanie Lynskey) who often sneaks in to spy on Charlie.

This box set contains every single "Charlie Sheen Episode" of the hit comedy. This box set is a must for all fans of the show if you don't have the DVds already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super is Super..., 2 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Super [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Super is a "super-hero" film starring Rainn Wilson & Ellen Page. Wilson plays a man named Frank who claims only to have 2 perfect moments in his life, when he got married to his wife Sarah (Liv Tyler) & when he helped a police man out during a chase.

After his wife leaves for the arms of a drug dealer, Frank sinks into depression, where he has a vision in which he is touched by the hand of God and meets the Holy Avenger (Nathan Fillion), a superhero from a public-access television show on the All-Jesus Network who tells Frank that God has chosen him to become a "superhero".

For inspiration on what to do he goes to a comic book shop where he meets Libby (Ellen Page). Frank begins fighting crime as "The Crimson Bolt" & eventually Libby joins him as "Boltie". Together they fight crime preparing themselves for eventually winning Sarah back.

This superhero movie packs a lot of laughs & a barrel load of blood, a simple use of a wrench has never been so funny & Rainn Wilson shines in the role, Ellen Page dressed as a superhero is also some sight!

I would highly recommend this to anyone, however this IS NOT a rip off of Kick-Ass, yes they are similar but it is in no way shape or form a rip off. You wouldn't compare Spiderman to X-Men would you?

Anyway, especially for the price of this blu-ray it is a must-buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Good..., 1 Aug. 2011
The PPV after Wrestlemania is always a strange one, quite often it falls flat on its face as it tries to follow the grandest stage of them all. However Extreme Rules 2011 does not, this may be down to a very, very weak Wrestlemania 27 or it could just be that this is a pretty darn good PPV. This review will discuss winners of matches so be warned.

Match 1
Last Man Standing Match
Randy Orton V CM Punk

This match was a rematch from their bout at Wrestlemania only this time it was a last man standing match, this was a lot better than their previous match & got more time on the card. The match was a lot of what we would expect; the heel (Punk) working over Orton, a lot of the attack was aimed at Orton's previously hurt leg. Punk dominated the entire match, however Orton had spells when a comeback looked likely; however after about 19 minutes both men were fighting on the rope, Orton managed to get the upper hand & hit the RKO from the top rope, Punk wasn't able to respond & was counted down for 10. I thought it was a strange match to open the show with considering how big these 2 guys are & how much of a high profile match it was. Thankfully it delivered & got just under the 20 minute mark. A good match with a great finish - ****

Match 2
Table Match for the United States Championship
Sheamus © V Kofi Kingston

This was a match that was set up backstage after Sheamus gloated about taking the US title over to Smackdown! Kofi got a golden opportunity at the title. A nice back & forth match with both men looking like they could win it, ending came with a huge cross body by Kofi to the outside of the ring planting Sheamus though a table. This was a great filler match & got under 10 minutes so it didn't feel like it dragged on. Disappointed that Sheamus dropped the title but it allows him to compete in the main event rather than the mid-card. **1/2

Match 3
Tag Team Country Whipping Match
Michael Cole & Jack Swagger V Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler

What a horrendous match this was, after Michael Cole "defeated" Lawler at Wrestlemania this match was made, yes, it featured a commentator teaming with a former world champion taking on a semi-retired commentator & a fat commentator with heart problems. No this was going to be anything but a wrestling clinic. The premise of the match was also terrible, let's have these guys whip each other with leather straps. Seriously what were WWE thinking when they booked this match? Anyway onto the "match", most of it was Lawler/Swagger as expected, however the ending came when Cole rolled up JR, it was the most pathetic ending to a match I have ever seen. JR being rolled up - just no! I would give this a half star but the actual wrestling between Lawler/Swagger was quite good. *

Match 4
Falls Count Anywhere Match
Cody Rhodes V Rey Mysterio

This had been my favourite feud in WWE for the past few months. Rhodes had accused Rey of deliberately damaging his "dashing" good looks. Their match at Wrestlemania was good & one of the best of the night then. As like any falls count anywhere match this one went through the arena & into the crowd. They were fighting backstage where some excellent spots were used. Rhodes used the environment well & showed why he is the best young wrestler WWE have today. Unsurprisingly the action made its way back to the ring; this is where the end happened. Rey sprayed mist into Rhodes's eyes (similar to former wrestler Tajiri) & hit the 619 for the win. This was another good match between the two & a nice way to end the feud as Rey had been drafted to Raw. ***1/2

Match 5
Extreme Rules Match - Loser Leaves WWE
Michelle McCool V Layla

For over a year these two dominated the divas division as a pair going by Laycool, since the turn of the year their relationship however has deteriorated. Michelle accused Layla of constantly losing matches even though several of them were her fault. The 2 even went to couples counselling where Michelle exploded & attacked Lay. This match was then set, Layla won the match & Michelle would be gone from WWE, after the match Kharma debuted & attack Michelle as Layla watched on. The irony is that during the match Layla got injured & the next night on Raw it was revealed she would be out indefinitely, meaning neither is on WWE at the moment. *1/2

Match 6
Ladder Match for the Vacant World Heavyweight Championship
Christian V Alberto Del Rio

After Edge defeated the Royal Rumble winner Del Rio at Wrestlemania he announced that he has been forced to retire. The title was then vacated & this match was created after Christian won a battle royal to face Del Rio. The match simply stole the show, it was a fantastic match & both guys were able to put on one hell of a show. It looked like either man could win it. Christian looked like he had it won but interference from Brodus Clay & Ricardo Rodriguez stopped him. Then it looked like Del Rio was about to win however a noise from the top of the stage distracted him, Edge had came into the arena & distracted Del Rio. Christian took advantage & pushed Del Rio from the ladder as he landed on Clay & Rodriguez. Spurred on by Edge Christian climbed the ladder to finally win the world heavyweight championship. Christian finally got his hands n the gold & a life time of hardship had been fulfilled. He celebrated with his "brother" as Del Rio looked on in anguish. Obviously things didn't go Christian's way in the next week but this match was brilliant. ****1/2

Match 7
Lumberjack Match for the WWE Tag Team Titles
Big Show & Kane © V The Corre (Wade Barrett & Ezekiel Jackson)

This was another filler match, really used to give the fans a break between title matches or even a toilet break for the fans in attendance. The match was anything but spectacular & Show & Kane retained the title in just over 4 minutes. *1/2

Match 8
Steel Cage Triple Threat Match for the WWE Title
The Miz © V John Cena V John Morrison

After Wrestlemania a gauntlet style match was set up ton determine a number 1 contender for the title. When it was down to 2 (Cena & R-Truth) Miz & his apprentice Alex Riley interfered & ended the match. However it was then announced it would instead be a triple threat match. The following week, Morrison challenged Truth for his spot in the match, orison won was ambushed after the match by Truth thus turning him heel.

The match itself was really good, at several points in the match all 3 competitors looked to have it won. There were some great spots & one spectacular botch. The Miz was double superplexed off the cage & landed on his neck, he was very lucky not to get injured on this occasion. Morrison had the best chance to win the match, Cena & Miz were down as he creped to wards the door; however R-Truth came down & laid him out before leaving. Cena then got the Miz on the top rope before hitting the FU... sorry Attitude Adjustment & then got the pinfall. The fans were sent home happy as Cena celebrated with the title once again. ****

The PPV was indeed very good, was it brilliant? No unfortunately, with a shoddy Wrestlemania this had no excitement around it. I Wrestlemania had been better this would have been an amazing PPV.

It will also look spectacular in WWE blu ray as that is tops.

Overall I would give it 31/2 stars, however i will round up for Amazons sake.

Kevin Bridges - The Story So Far...Live in Glasgow [DVD]
Dvd ~ Kevin Bridges
Price: £3.34

5.0 out of 5 stars Say hello to me son, The Garage..., 22 July 2011
Kevin Bridges is the biggest thing in the stand up market at the moment, not only does he give a consistent funny performances throughout this gig, but his Glaswegian charm also makes it very enjoyable.

The show opened with a very, very funny package of Kevin mimicking Tony Soprano, an absolute genius scene only for him to tell he doesn't actually drive & would strike fear in all when if he were to pull out his provisional license.

The show is consistently funny with a variety of topics being poked at, including the price of food at the SECC, how people name their children & of course the Americans (Chad Hogan).

Kevin shows fellow Scot Frankie Boyle how to do stand-up here, there is no place in comedy for an entire show of humiliating people which Frankie seems to do best, I would choose Bridges over him any day of the week.

An ace show here from the man who is the future of stand up comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seth's finest hour?, 22 July 2011
In the past 20 odd years there has been a boom in cartoon shows. The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy & now American Dad, & IMO American Dad is starting to look the best. This series is just ace & some of the episodes have the potential to be called the best ever. I wonder where Seth ranks American Dad with his other shows (Family Guy & Cleveland Show).

Series 6 opens with a right cracker, Stan tells Steve he doesn't have the right attitude when singing to the national anthem to war veterans, so make him more patriotic he enlists him in a war re-enactment with hilarious consequences, in the side story, Roger insists Francine to cook a bird for him while he badgers Stan for the cable code so he can watch a PPV special for $499, this was an excellent episode.

Another favourite of mine is rapture's delight, after Stan & Francine "get together" in a church the rapture happens, because of their sins they are left behind. After a fight, they split up & Francine meets Jesus, Jesus & Stan tram up to take on the anti-Christ. This episode is spectacularly funny!

There are so many episodes on these discs that are awesome, it is actually far too hard to pick one that stands out (I have picked 2 great ones), however this is the best series yet & possibly better than anything.

Zombieland [Blu-ray] [2010] [Region Free]
Zombieland [Blu-ray] [2010] [Region Free]
Dvd ~ Woody Harrelson
Price: £5.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank god for rednecks..., 22 July 2011
Zombieland is comedy about how America looks 2 months after most people are mutated, the place is deserted & only zombies habit the earth, can the remaining few survive? Or are they just going to be another one to be infected?
Two months after a mutated strain of mad cow disease has turned most humans into zombies, college student "Columbus" (Jesse Eisenberg) is on his way to Columbus, Ohio to see if his parents are still alive. Columbus is a shut-in who has spent most of his life inside playing World of Warcraft. He loses his car in an accident and encounters "Tallahassee" (Woody Harrelson), who is on a quest to find the last Twinkies on Earth. They travel together and when they stop at a grocery store, they meet two sisters, "Wichita" (Emma Stone) and "Little Rock" (Abigail Breslin). The sisters are not as sweet as they seem however.

As they travel through America they must deal with several problems, mainly the zombies. In a last ditch attempt to escape zombies they go to Hollywood where they spend time in Bill Murray's home, assuming he is dead, when Murray appears looking like a zombie, everyone panics until he explains why he looks like that.
We discover that there is a certain click between Columbus & Wichita & we also learn of a heart breaking truth about Tallahassee.

All of this while packing a hell of an amount of laughs goes nowhere any zombie film has before & it just works. 5 stars all round for this one.
