A Dream Lens !!!!, 4 Feb 2012
After much thought and research, i pampered my camera (D3100) with the new Af-S Nikkor 35mm f1.8G and i was overjoyed with it. I must say though that the delivery from Amazon was prompt and infact i received the package earlier than i expected (Amazon, u just couldn't go wrong). Where do i begin with the lens, everything about it is absolutely stunning, well almost everything. The built quality isn't that great considering its made out of plastic, but hey what else would i expect for this price, Magnesium alloy construction or may be carbon fiber, naah ..... The Manual focus ring is smooth for my delight, however the pictures were a bit blurry when i took few snaps using manual focus. I am sure though that it is not the lens but my fault (P.S - Need to work on how to use manual focus).
I was paranoid about the way the lens would perform before i bought it. I actually freezed on getting myself the 50mm Af-G, however after playing around with my 18-55 kit lens at 50mm and 35mm, realized that i was taking the snaps more at 35mm than at 50mm, hence selected the 35mm. The best thing about any prime is that they are sharp and lens can be wide opened. This is no different, at f1.8 the bokeh is gorgeous (may be not as good as 50mmm) but miles better than the kit lens. As the aperture is decreased, the lens came to life and snaps became sharper and sharper. I think it showed its magic between f4 to f8 in terms of sharpness, I didnt even feel the need of VR.
Its now my go to lens. I pretty much take everything with this lens, Landscapes (35mm works), portraits. It hasnt come off my camera yet. Its a must have lens for every photographer, U CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH IT AND I MEAN NEVER !!!!!!!!!
