5.0 out of 5 stars Almost makes gardening a pleasure. Almost., 20 May 2016

Amazon actually shipped me the 900 watt GL 9035 rather than the 800 watt 8033 which I ordered, but they physically look very similar. Just given it a first trial and it is excellent, made very short work of edges overgrown with long grass and sprinked with nettles, brambles, and thistles. Not too heavy, with nice adjustable handle and telescopic shaft to adjust for height. You don't need a shoulder strap with this. I have a bigger petrol Ryobi which I use for field work, and this seems just as powerful and effective. Comes with choice of auto feed single 2 mm string, or heavier double string lengths which you replace as they become worn. Only tried the single string so far (auto feed worked perfectly), the thicker doubles should have amazing cutting power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for tracking heart rate., 25 April 2016

Very pleased with this. It's my third, and favourite device. Started with the cheap Sony which is OK, then tried the Motorola android watch. Heartbeat monitor on that was very disappointing. But heartbeat monitor on this is fine. You need to be aware that "steps counting" is not a precise science, I find this probably over-reads while the Sony under-read. But fine for personal tracking. The app has a "Strava"-type mapping option which works well (relying on the GPS in your phone). Battery life is several days.

Works very well. The "sports bottles" are nice, and it is useful to have a spare.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost as good as a small bench vice., 24 Jan. 2016

Neat little bit of kit. The jaw part has a little bit of slack with respect to the base when it is clamped up and the rubber faced grips are not quite as secure as a proper cast iron or steel bench vice, but for a small portable unit which can be clamped to a kitchen worktop or similar smooth surface it works really well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Originally skeptical about all in one machines, but converted by this., 24 Jan. 2016

I'd always said I would never get another inkjet, but after my A3 laserjet failed I needed another A3 printer quickly and this had good reviews. Havn't printed much colour yet (normally use Lexmark laser). The scanner with automatic sheet feed and duel sided scanning is absolutely amazing. Files come out a bit larger than from my wired Canon Lide. I thought that scanning from the printer screen rather than the PC would be a bit of a gimmick, but in fact it works very well indeed. Place the material in the tray, and a simple dialogue comes up automatically. The wireless connection has also been flawless. It remains to be seen whether cartridge life is good, or whether I will end up with clogged jets (although all the reviews are good). A nice feature is the extra large black reservoir. This could easily be the sole printer/scanner that you need for domestic or small home-office use.

One word of warning, while the apparent footprint is only a little bigger than A3, if you are printing A3 as well as A4 you find that the A3 tray is perpendicular to the "scanning plate" so the overall footprint is really almost square (with the paper sticking out in front of the machine). Fortunately my space is just big enough. Another plus is that is less than a quarter of the weight of the Laserjet 8000 which it replaced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small, neat, good value, looks well made., 24 Jan. 2016

Havn't actually used it for jump starting yet. Packaged in a lovely cardboard box like an Apple product and the build quality doesn't look far short of Apple too. Bought it mainly to use to provide independent power to horsebox cctv (also for emergency charging to phone). The only 12 volt output is to the battery clamps, but in fact the socket is the standard EC5 as widely used in the RC model community so it will be easy to make up a fused lead for my job. Includes an LED light, Input for charging is standard micro usb (like a phone). Output is USB and comes with a very neat duel purpose lead for modern IPhone or "normal" phone.

Very compact compared to some of the larger units, 14.5 x 7.5 x 1.3 cm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for walkers., 27 July 2015
I wanted a backpack to carry a Fuji X-E1 plus various lenses, but also with enough room for snacks / drink and a waterproof. After checking out all the stock in my local dealer (Clifton Cameras) I selected this as the best compromise, I felt the tripod arrangement wasn't as good as on Manfrotto and some other bags (I uses a Hahnel Triad 30 when walking) but in the end this has turned out to be just about satisfactory. Everything else about this is outstanding: extremely comfortable, easy to put on, and best of all the side access pocket which lets you remove and replace the camera quickly without taking the bag off. Other nice features, room for a macbook pro if you are using it for travelling. The mirrorless is a bit lost in there, it is really designed for DSLRs and would take a full frame one. I carry three zooms and a prime, plus spare battery, wireless remote, close-up lens, and there is still room for other small bits while leaving the top compartment (28 x 14 cm and 5 to 15 cm deep) for waterproofs and/or refreshments. There are both inside and outside pockets for keys/cash, and an extra concealed waterproof cover for bad weather.

The other nice thing is the discrete styling, without a tripod it is not at all obvious that it is a camera or laptop bag. Perhaps not quite as robust as Manfrotto or ThinkTank kit, but significantly cheaper.

3.0 out of 5 stars Suspicious reviews, 10 Jan. 2015
Haven't actually read it but the bimodal distribution of comments seems odd, especially with 17 of the one star reviews being posted on three consecutive days. Author seems to talk sense on radio or TV (I forget which).

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing value, 1 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This really is a cracking little device, particularly for the £120 I paid in March to an Amazon supplier. I'd set a budget limit of about £230 and this was the cheapest product on my shortlist. I only wanted a basic machine to record the new grandchild and to film dogs and horses at competitions and elsewhere. It works fine on the "auto" settings, but has plenty of manual settings via menus. I thought at first the "pistol" rather than traditional layout might be less effective, but in fact I think you can probably hand-hold it steadier provided you have the right technique. I won't use still cameras without traditional viewfinders and when I first used this holding it at eye level I found it unsteady and also difficult to see the screen (outside) because of reflections. But, if you hold it at stomach level with the right elbow pressed into your side, then steady the screen with the left hand (adjusting the tilt for optimum view) it is both steady and easy to view.

The menu joystick is good and it is easy to start recording video, but to my mind the zoom and still photo switches are a bit awkward. I wonder if it would be better with a more conventional rocker zoom in the front, operated by fingers. But this would probably tempt one to use zoom too much.

Nice "burst mode" features for stills, and will do half speed slow motion by recording at 60 fps. The download software is good, although I havn't tried to assemble a movie yet. Easy to connect to a TV, although I couldn't get the Viera link to my Panasonic TV working, perhaps because I bought a generic lead instead of the £30 Panasonic one. I tend to record at 720p to keep the file size and processing time down, but this is good enough for viewing on a 22 inch computer monitor. The image is quite obviously "digital".

Other reviewers comment on battery life, I havn't found this a problem for my sort of casual use (although the battery is very small and it would have made little difference to the overall dimensions to have it doubled in size). But I did buy a third party battery to have a spare, and also a mains charger which is a bit more convenient than using the USB port.

The other big plus is waterproofness. I will probably never use it underwater, but it means you never have to worry about rain if you need to catch an unmissable outdoor event in the rain. The two types of image stabiliser seem very effective, but you do need to have a tripod to avoid the videos looking rather amateurish. If you always compare different products by looking at the "numbers" you might dismiss this because of its relatively small zoom range. Personally, I consider it to be more than adequate. Some of the zooms now available must be very difficult to use other than in good light and on an expensive tripod. (I took some nice film of a deer at 150 metres the other day, far from full frame but more than good enough to identify the breed and sex as it grazed).

It's nicely made and finished, and feels like a much more expensive product.
