5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, 28 April 2011
Just finished reading this one, really interesting, of a similar style to Walter Schucks book - Luftwaffe Eagle - its full of rare photographs and has a section of colour prints of aircraft involved within the book. The Author was an NCO pilot in the ground attack role, later moving to the ME262, with spells as an instructor. Its a really good read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Legend..!, 3 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Fighter Pilot (Hardcover)
An all round fantastic read. Don't be put off by the fact that co-writers are involved as you would never know they were, it appears that they have just compiled Old's notes and writings into a gripping story of his life, all in a seamless text.
Not only did Robin Olds distinguish himself as a WW2 ace and a Vietnam Wolfpack legend, he was also a born leader of men.
This was one of those books that I could not stop reading, full of smaller stories of events that keep you turning pages, I really cannot praise this book enough, especially at the Amazon price. If you are at all interested in military aviators, this book is a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars A better read...!, 5 Dec. 2010
This is an excellent book, whilst I admit that the author does not go into detail about every one of his sorties/victories, the significant combats are detailed, and the fact that he brought down over 200 aircraft and he wrote the book a long time after the events, makes this understandable.
That said, the story itself is very interesting and the authors achievements are impressive to say the least, it really was hard to take a break from reading!
What stands out about this book is the wealth of photographs of aircraft and those involved. Seeing who each pilot was made their victoroies and fates more personal.
The author also helpfully allocated a section to photos of enemy aircraft, allowing the reader to see what, say, a Petlyakov Pe-2 looked like. Add to this a number of colour photos and diagrams, and you have a very interesting book that once read, will be picked up again for enjoyment and as reference material.

Casio Men's Illuminator Combi Watch
Casio Men's Illuminator Combi Watch

3.0 out of 5 stars Wibble..!, 10 Jan. 2009
Like most people who have made comments, I bought this watch for work, it's cheap, and in my opinion smart but not overly stated. I've had it for a couple of years and have used it as my day to day watch.
Plus points, keeps great time, analogue and digital including 24 hour clock on the digital along with the date. The light is just right, not too powerfull and lights in a ring effect so the whole face is illuminated. Battery life is excellent..!
Bad points, second day out with it, managed to scuff the watch glass/resin on a wall, two nice big scratches straight away.........but then, not many watches would take this kind of abuse anyway...!
NEVER - EVER - lose the instructions, the digital time is easy to change but you need the instructions to change the analogue time......
Two years on and the silver either side of the face has worn down to the resin, though it's not that obvious, and now the strap has broken......watch repairers told me they can order a new one for £6.50, due to the shape, it's not easy to get an off the shelf replacement.
On the whole, a good watch, I really have given it some hammer and it's survived OK, amazingly no more scratches. I would buy another, still think the face and watch itself looks really good and is not overly huge on the wrist, or too blingy, perfect for work, but might try a casio with a metal strap this time, to make the most of the 10-year battery life..!

Black Aces High: The Story of a Modern Fighter Squadron at War
Black Aces High: The Story of a Modern Fighter Squadron at War

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised..!, 25 Feb. 2008
This book details the 'Black Aces' cruise in 1999, in which they fought over the Balkans region of Europe, specifically Kosovo. Wilcox gives an overview of the squadrons campaign, with accounts from the aircrews on each raid. The book charts the squadrons problems and successes, and surprised me, as I never realized how much the famous 'Tomcat Fighter', was used as a precision attack and FAC platform. The book is well written and I found it hard to put down as I found myself wanting the aircrew to improve on their early failures. Highly recommended.

Palace Cobra: A Fighter Pilot in the Vietnam Air War
Palace Cobra: A Fighter Pilot in the Vietnam Air War

5.0 out of 5 stars Palace Cobra, 27 Oct. 2007
A really good read, I was worried as I had not read his first book, but there was no need, this one centres on his second tour, flying the F4, and goes in depth into the workings of an F4 unit over Vietnam. Rasimus also talks about his time off, which puts a different turn on normal aviation books. I really enjoyed this book, could not put it down, and already have his first book on order..!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Read....., 16 Oct. 2007
This review is from: Hostile Skies (Hardcover)
I had already read Sharky's book, and found that a really good read, but he did a little too much griping about the Air Force and the strategies used during the war. Morgan's book is much more personal, he lets you in on his feelings and his personal life, which made the book feel more real. I would recommend this book to anyone, I could not put it down! Definately a top read..!!!
