Good whilst it worked (Now fully working), 4 Sep 2010
I received my 3g K3 yesterday after ordering on the 6th Aug.
It worked straight out of the box which was good. Adding it to my wireless network was a bit of a chore but that was more to do with the quantity of security on my router which I had to reduce slightly. Add the Kindle and then put the security back. But all working.
Books purchased via the websie are delivered to the Kindle almost quicker than I could swap back to it.
Started reading Blood, Sweat and Tea (I can really recommend this book) but after a couple of hours of reading my device basically croaked and spluttered and died.
Being used to techie things sometimes you get this sort of thing so wasn't too worried or annoyed...just a little disappointed.
But a quick call to Customer Services and a new one is already Dispatching Soon. I only mention this considering the negative publicity Amazon CS has had recently and too me they still seem the best I have ever contacted...Try talking to Dell, HP or Toshiba Customer Services...and you will see how good Amazon are as they actually listen to what you say rather than just go through a script. (Orla in Kindle support I would like to say a special thankyou too for your help)
But my experience of the Kindle in the short time is very positive. I thought I would never go to a E-Reader but the K3 persuaded me to try and am pleased I did. I found the screen very easy to read. I like the optimisations to the text. But found the defaults pretty good. I have found on the Kindle I can read smaller text than in a printed book. Wish I had one a few months back when I had trouble with my eyesight. Personally I prefer the Dark Grey on Light Grey as I think it reduces eye strain...But I am also colourblind so probably affects me different.
The Web Browser was way better than expected. I think I could make do with this if my iPhone 4 (Which works fine for me) loses signal and desperatly want to have a surf. I liked a previous reviewers suggestion for price checking when out shopping.
Have given 4 stars as the device was fab...have just removed 1 star as I am currently Kindleless...but that should be sorted next week
When I get my replacement and it proves reliable I will edit this review and up the star rating!
All in all I think this is the way forward. But I am also a total gadget freak!
