This review is from: The Goldfinch (Hardcover)
I read this book over Christmas in midst of usual family chaos but couldn't stop reading it! I loved every word and is easily the best book I have read for years. Such powerful writing and the descriptions especially in the Vegas months were amazing - I could imagine myself in the desert, in the awful soul-destroying twilight world of half-finished houses and wild people. This damaged boy and his search for what life was about was mind-numbing. It seemed to be written at break-neck speed and you were swept along with it not knowing what was going to happen next. Wonderful!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Indian village life, 4 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A wonderful author who describes life in a fictional Indian village so well that you can actually feel the atmosphere and the lives of the people in the village. You become completely absorbed in their problems; their families and their happiness when things go well for them.
The 3 stories stand alone but reading them together in one book gives a real understanding of the characters. RK Narayn writes sparingly but beautifully and his descriptions of the village of Malgudi makes you want to visit it.
