5.0 out of 5 stars Good Value For Money, 8 Mar 2012
As the title says, good value for money and cartridges seem to be working fine so far. No clogging, good quality prints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Film, Watch Out For Audio Problems, 26 Feb 2012
Been a fan of this film for many years, having been into the West Coast punk scene many years ago (more sophisticated tastes these days!).

Had a problem initially with the audio, in that inserted disc into BD player (Sony BDP-S780) and audio would only output in front right speaker, with no speech. Tried on a Sony PS3 and Pioneer BDP-320 and exactly the same results. Eventually figured that unlike all the other BD discs I have, you have to change the settings on the BD players to output audio to PCM only.

Very strange, but at least I can now view the disc and hopefully this is of help to anyone with similar problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Unluckiest Band Ever - But The Best, 29 Dec 2011
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Where to start with Cardiacs? First saw them back in 1983 and been fascinating to see the band develop over the years and perfect a style of music that may be influenced by a number of artists (commonly compared to Beefheart, Beatles, Gentle Giant, Sex Pistols, Residents - I can see some ELO in there), but remains uniquely their own.

Why the unluckiest band? After several albums on their own label, their first Rough Trade album in the early '90s was released a few weeks before RT went under, not to be seen again for 4 years or so, in the early 2000s the master tapes of a new album were destroyed and in 2008, the singer and creative genius, Tim Smith, suffered a stroke and heart attack (the sad irony of it all), shortly before completion of their first album in 9 years.

It's been said about Cardiacs that once you 'get' their music, everything else seems boring by comparison and, yes, I have to agree with that. The thing about Tim Smith is that he writes truly wonderful tunes, just presented in a slightly challenging style.

As for 'Greatest Hits' this includes one track previously unreleased, 'Faster Than Snakes With a Ball and a Chain', which probably survived the destruction of the master tapes noted above. If this was indicative of the rest of that album, then it would truly have been one of their best. A great track.

As for the rest of the CD, this includes a number of their more commercial tracks, from the brilliance of 'Odd Even' to the relative weirdness of 'Plane Plane Against The Grain' - not a bad track is to be had.

Definitely worth tracking down for 'FTSWABAAC', I was lucky enough to get my copy for 4 or so off Amazon.

Get well soon, Mr Smith.

2.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film But Flawed Blu-Ray, 27 Dec 2011
This review is from: Brazil [Blu-ray] [1985] (Blu-ray)
Weird but excellent film, been one of my favourites for years and was looking forward to the blu-ray release.

However, what is the point of blu-rays when compared to DVDs? Ah, yes, superior visuals and sound quality, or at least supposedly.

Visually, the transfer is pretty good for a 25+ year old film (though no great improvement over an upscaled DVD).

Audio is another matter. This is standard 2.0 Dolby Digital and compares to the USA multi-region release that is DTS-HD Master and which sounds much better than the UK version (yes, I know it's sad, but I did buy the US version after my disappointment with the UK version).

So, Fox, why is it that you think the UK should put up with inferior sound quality compared to the US edition? Was it really impossible to use the same master? And again, what is the point in blu-ray if the production companies bundle the disc with a sound format that is no better than DVD (actually, worse, my old Criterion edition at least has 2.1 Dolby Digital - well, I did say it was one of my favourite films...).

Linksys E3000 High Performance Wireless-N Router
Linksys E3000 High Performance Wireless-N Router

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing, 2 May 2011
This was bought to replace a Linksys WRT160N router. I've persevered with the E3000 for a number of months, but keep having too many fallouts and slow connection speeds.

Initial problems in setting up the wireless printer to the router (despite printer and router only being c.4 feet away from each other). Printer simply would not recognise the network. Eventually got it working after an hour or so.

Anyway, ongoing fallout issues, have reinstalled, reverted to factory settings etc and finally reinstalled the WRT160N, which works perfectly. By way of example, testing on a laptop situated in room next to the router, on a 50mb Virgin broadband network, the E3000 achieved 2.5mbps speed, the WRT160N achieved just over 40mbps. Need I say more.

Draper 25996 Double-Cylinder Foot Pump

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, 20 Dec 2008
Have tyre pressure guage on 2 cars and previous pumps have had consistent readings with these. However, on one car, the Draper pump was showing a reading of 8lbs below the TPG on the car, on the other it was 4lbs below. Inconsistent readings, so could not trust product. Have now bought twin barrel Michelin pump, readings consistent with the cars' TPG.

Not going to return the product, as was cheap (you get what you pay for) and cost of postage and parking and the lack of pleasure queuing at a post office at this time of year does not make it worthwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear Audio, 13 May 2008
Replaced my Sony MDR-V300 with the MDR-7506 and much greater clarity on the latter. Old phones always seemed to have a muffled sound, not the case with the new set. MDR-7506 definitely recommended
