Intermediate Public Economics

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introductory text, 17 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The clear exposition of this text makes the concepts stimulating and colourful. Written in a user-friendly font, it is not an intimidating academic text and students will appreciate the use of 'plain english' by the authors.

In summary, this is a Public Economics text of encyclopaedic nature and it emphasises the broad nature of Public Economics, as it stands now. The concepts of equity and efficiency are defined clearly and the logical derivation of an optimal policy to address the trade-off between equity and efficiency is a key feature of this outstanding text. The methodology of policy formation is clearly outlined universally.

Top text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written text, 10 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an articulate and stimulating text, written in plain english.

It charts the chronology of the major contributions, and contributors, to the development of economic thought from Aristotle's minor observations on economic life to the pioneers of Econometrics in the late twentieth century.

This is a 'page-turner' and the outstanding feature of the text is the accessibility and readability of the material - full credit to the author.

In summary, he is the 'Simon Schama' or 'Brian Cox' of his academic discipline and this will make a perfect Christmas gift in 7 months time.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Under-rated gem, 2 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Power In The Darkness (Audio CD)
I saw T.R.B in the genteel and classical environment of Cheltenham Town Hall in 1990 where, uniquely, I sat at a table with x lagers and saw him play all his hits (the audience must have been < 300). A surreal and still vivid experience which makes life sweet and precious.

A very under-rated 'new wave' talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic and pure hard rock, 28 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Never Turn Your Back (Audio CD)
This is classic hard rock at its purest.

From the classic riff of 'Breadfan' to the haunting, powerful and emotional 'Parents', it is the epitome of 70s hard rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teaching genius, 20 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This text is unbelievably good and present-day Economics undergraduates can sleep soundly at night.

Just buy it and you'll appreciate the clear exposition of a rigorous and challenging subject.

It even provides model answers to a range of qualitative type questions (this must be exam heaven).

Undergraduate Econometrics
Undergraduate Econometrics
by R. Carter Hill
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars First-class introduction to Econometrics, 20 April 2011
This text is first-class in every sense. Beautifully written, it explains tricky concepts in a non-intimidatory fashion and the empirical examples (eg C = f(Y)+ e etc) are referenced frequently. The text is particularly strong on Regression analysis and the discipline of Econometrics comes 'alive' in this context. This is the ultimate recommendation for this text.

Worth every penny and I can only describe it as an Econometrics 'bible', in secular terms.

Industrial Economics And Organization: A European Perspective
Industrial Economics And Organization: A European Perspective
by David Jacobson
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Industrial Economics text, 15 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a beautifully written text on Industrial Economics which outlines the Structure - Conduct - Performance model well and also successfully introduces the EU dimension eg barriers to entry. Theory and empirical studies are presented in a balanced format.

Highly recommended for undergraduate Industrial Economics courses or the curious reader.

Corporate Strategy
Corporate Strategy

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding introductory text on Corporate strategy, 8 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Corporate Strategy (Paperback)
This is an articulate and stimulating text that is very absorbing. The many Case studies highlight the Corporate methodologies outlined and so the student can view how a firm matches its resources to opportunities / threats in the external environment (see, I'm talking the corporate language after only one chapter).

Highly recommended and save this important text to your personal 'Wishlist'.

A must-have for Corporate strategy students or the lay-man, like myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Classic Pink Floyd, 3 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: David Gilmour (Audio CD)
If, like me, you have listened to 'Dark side of the Moon', 'Wish you were here' and 'Animals' for decades, and you want to hear more of David Gilmour's unique style, you will love this.

Nothing can match his guitar solo on 'Time.' However, his guitar tricks are brought out of his locker again on this CD and his voice - vastly under-rated - is mellow and soulful and could send a petulant baby to sleep. In addition, the piano sound is atmospheric at times.

Particular highlights are 'There's no way out of here', 'Cry from the street', No way' and 'So far away'.

Finally, the production is great.

Exchange Rate Economics: Theories and Evidence (Routledge Studies in the Modern World Economy)
Exchange Rate Economics: Theories and Evidence (Routledge Studies in the Modern World Economy)
by Ronald MacDonald
Edition: Paperback
Price: £48.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Good review of exchange rate theory, 21 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a well-written and coherent account of exchange rate theory and its emprirical validity. Each model stresses the assumptions underlying the analysis and the mathematics is clearly explained in logarithm form.

The author has another textbook, written with an american author, and that has excellent reviews too.

The beauty of this text is the readability and accessibility.
