Kiss Of Death
Kiss Of Death
Price: £13.28

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Motorhead rock'n'roll masterpiece, 16 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Kiss Of Death (Audio CD)
Initially, my radar failed to detect K.O.D but that oversight has now been rectified. Starting with the excellent uptempo riff of 'Sucker', the great riffs & hooks continue. Futile to highlight specific tracks as the excellence is universal. However, I've just played 'Trigger' three times in succession. Lemmy and his band were born to write and play rock'n'roll riffs, solos, heavy drums. Motorhead, until I go.

5.0 out of 5 stars A penetrating analysis of the evil of Racism, 26 May 2014
This is a beautifully articulate, lucid and logical analysis of how evil and unscrupulous individuals have misinterpreted the Scriptures to suit their own agenda. I was not aware that The Slave Trade, referred to as 'The Black Holocaust', involved the tragic mistreatment of 100 million Black Africans but I am aware that, unlike the Jewish Holocaust, the Church Authorities have NEVER been held accountable for their involvement. Similarly, the evil of Apartheid was implemented by amoral and despotic Christian individuals who abused the Scriptures to ensure white domination in South Africa.

This is a powerful analysis and will help ensure that Racism will be combatted in our lifetime. Reading intelligent books civilizes mankind and I urge every person to inform themselves fully on the disgraceful Racism episodes in world history. At times, we have demonstrated that mankind can be perceived, at its worst, as a low form of life but the author's humanity shines through on every page.

We Are Motorhead
We Are Motorhead
Price: £13.83

5.0 out of 5 stars Under-rated, 28 April 2014
This review is from: We Are Motorhead (Audio CD)
This is a severely under-rated album. For me, all great bands possessed great specialist musicians, great songwriters and s talented production team. The net effect is a synergistic '2 + 3 = 5'. Mikkey Dee is a dynamic and intense drummer and Ponty boy, Phil Campbell, is an ace guitarist, while Lemmy is simply a unique individual. All great tracks but 'Slow dance' is my favourite TODAY.

The Perfect King: The Life of Edward III, Father of the English Nation
The Perfect King: The Life of Edward III, Father of the English Nation
by Ian Mortimer
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.69

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique insight into the central figure of the Hundred Years' War, 25 Jan 2014
This is a well-written account that focuses on Edward's political objectives and true motivations for war. It also emphasises the need for the reader to judge medievel acts from a medievel point of view and not our contemporary standpoint (has Blair been more humane ?). Finally, and last but not least, Dr Mortimer should be applauded for being the only academic historian, in my experience, to provide evidence for Edward 2's exile in Ireland and Italy. Therefore, he challenges the account of the 'Night of the red-hot pokers' at Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire. The taking of Calais epitomises the shrewd and intelligent strategic thought demonstrated by Edward 111. This biography was a pleasure to read - stimulating stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful musical noise, 17 Jan 2014

I think that most normal humans are genetically hard-wired to love Motorhead. Our ancestors probably sang their classics at the Battles of Hastings, Crecy, etc. It is chest-thumping rock hysteria and 'Heartbreaker', the album opener, is a great statement of intent. It continues with 'Coup de grace' and is relentless throughout. A unique band.

I possess all of Rory Gallagher's studio and live albums and this, alongside 'Top priority' and 'Defender', are my favourites. Raw, rocking, Bluesy and Ballsy. Highlights include : 'Calling card' (live version far superior to the studio version), 'Toredown' and 'When my baby she left me' (great Blues licks, hooks and solos etc).

For £7.99, these flip-flops are very comfortable and stylish. Great for wandering about the manor or in the back garden. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding 'Primer' on Friedman, 31 May 2013

As Newton(?)said, great men rest on the shoulders of giants : Smith, Von Mises, Hayek, Friedman. To understand Friedman's economic philosophy, this beautifully written text is an outstanding introduction and its excellence has prompted me to buy the author's text on Hayek. Eamonn Butler is a gifted Economist and writer who outlines economic philosophy coherently and in plain english. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard & heavy but classic Rush, 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Counterparts (Audio CD)
For me, this is Rush' heaviest work, but there is a high concentration of classic cuts here : 'Animate', 'Stick it out', 'Cut to the chase' & 'Alien shore' are as strong as any of their previous gems & pearls. Three brilliant musicians combine and synergy takes them to another level. Classy & exciting.

If anyone could replace Phil Lynott then Ricky Warwick could and has. The riffs, harmonising guitars and sensitive & perceptive lyrics are here, with some hardness sprinkled too. It's reminiscent of 'Black Rose' which is a good thing.

Simply buy the album and book a ticket for the imminent tour. End of.
