Making bias binding with this tool is really quick and easy, especially if you have a roller cutter and a big cutting mat to make cutting the long bias strips painless. Ready-made bias binding is such poor quality nowadays that it makes sense to produce your own, and you can use remnants that you already have in your scrap bag so you'll soon recover the cost if you do a lot of sewing. As well as using plain coloured binding for hems, etc, why not make binding from patterned cotton to bind the seams of an unlined jacket or the armholes and neckline of a plain top? The packaging tells you what width of bias strip to cut. All you do is push your bias strip through the wider end of the tool and pull it out of the narrow end - there's a slot on the underside that you can poke a pin into to help it go through - then continue to pull it through slowly by moving the tool with one hand, using the fold-out handle, while pressing the binding as it emerges with a steam iron held in the other hand. Join strips with a 45o seam if a long piece of binding is required. Check what width of tool to buy, you may need a wider one as well for thicker fabrics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not sealed but does the job, 28 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This appears to be a genuine BlackBerry part - it looks exactly like the one it is replacing, including the BB hologram on the label - except that it was made in Japan whereas the original one is Chinese. It also appears to be brand new. However, despite the word "sealed" in the product description, it came in an unsealed plastic bag (see photo) inside a small, plain, cardboard box, so I am a little suspicious and have given it 4 stars instead of 5. But it is holding its charge very well, just dropping a couple of notches on the indicator after a full day's light use. It has cured the problem I was having with my 3-year-old BB, namely unpredictable shutdowns when the battery indicator was still showing over half full, as well as rapid battery depletion from fully charged to the shutdown level. Clearly, the original battery was on its last legs and this new one was just what the doctor ordered.

4.0 out of 5 stars You could do a lot worse, 17 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I downloaded this when it was free so my expectations weren't high, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's written in the first person in the voice of a smart-Alec, wise-cracking protagonist who takes a bit of getting used to, but I found that he grew on me. Chandleresque? Possibly. The plot centres on small town skulduggery and corruption and, as the title indicates, it all takes place over a single weekend. That means there's quite a lot of action and little time to get bored.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value but not very robust, 22 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These pom-pom makers are a little flimsy and would probably not stand up to regular use in, say, a playgroup or nursery, but for occasional use they are fine. They will save a lot of time when I next need to make bobbles - wish I'd had them when knitting mini-hats for the Innocent Drinks / Age UK Big Knit campaign last autumn. You get a set of 4 that makes bobbles of diameter 3.5cm, 5.5cm, 7cm and 9cm. There's a colour leaflet in the pack with instructions and pictures of little animals that can be made by combining the different sized pom-poms. At less than the cost of a single size pom-pom maker on the High St, this set is worth buying even if you will only use it once in a blue moon. But buy well in advance of the need, my purchase took 6 weeks to arrive from China, although this was over the Christmas period and the supplier had already offered a refund by the time the package eventually turned up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mainly for vintage fans, 15 Jan. 2015
As should be obvious from the title, this is a book that will appeal mainly to people who like vintage clothing. Although the patterns have been updated to suit modern yarns (and, to a lesser extent, modern figures), many of them are still quite dated in appearance and would look a little odd on those of us who don't habitually dress in garments from the mid 20th Century.

Other reviewers have commented on the sparseness of the instructions and myriad errors. I haven't found this, but that might be because I learnt to knit in the 1960s when pattern instructions were perhaps less detailed than nowadays, and I have only knitted one design from the book and found it to be error free. But I did do an internet search to try and find a list of errata, without success. The publisher, Jacqui Small Publishing, doesn't even seem to have a website at present. A failure to make errata easily available online for knitting patterns in this day and age is indefensible, when people will be going out and spending good money on yarn and then find they cannot make sense of the instructions. (For anyone in this position, I suggest you ask advice from the shop where you bought the yarn.)

Although I have knitted one jumper from the book and I'm pleased with the result, I regard this as more of a coffee table book than a pattern book. There is some interesting information at the start about vintage knitting patterns and how to adapt them, and lots of lovely photos that will make anyone who loves knitwear go "ooh" and "aah", but I suspect that most knitters won't find much in it that is wearable. We just don't wear close-fitting little tops in fine, natural fibre yarns that have to be handwashed nowadays. Also, as others have said, be aware that all the designs are for adult females and if you are any bigger than a 38" bust you'll probably have to modify the patterns.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful for multi-country trips, 12 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you're looking for a (reasonably) recently published guide to most of Eastern Europe in a single volume, there isn't a lot of choice. It's pretty comprehensive in terms of the countries covered, but that means that there isn't a lot of detail on anything other than the main places of interest to tourists. So it is only worth considering if you are planning to visit several countries in a single trip and are limited in what you can take. Do your pre trip research using country-specific guidebooks and then take this with you and you will have the basic information you need.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful for any knitter, 21 July 2014
These stitch markers took just over 3 weeks to arrive from China in a package that was, curiously, marked as a gift for Customs purposes. I suppose they virtually are a gift at the price. I've had stitch markers like these before and the pins break easily (hence the 3* rating), but they are so cheap that I don't care. You can slip them across from needle to needle like bead-and-ring type markers, but the big advantage of these is they can be placed in your work a few rows down and then removed later on. I use them to remind me which is the right side when it's not obvious, to denote pattern repeats and where to work shaping without having to move them every row, and to mark where the sleeves go when knitting dropped shoulder jumpers. You get a selection of different colours in the packet which means you can give them colour coded meanings

4.0 out of 5 stars May not suit the largest needles, 14 July 2014
Mine took 16 days to arrive from China. You get 4 pairs of each of two sizes for your money, which is useful if you ever use a set of 4 double pointed needles. The larger ones I received are orange, not pale blue like in the picture, not that it matters. Despite the size ranges given, I would say that the small ones suit needles up to about 3.5mm (UK9.5), the large ones from about 3.75mm (UK9) to 6.5mm (UK3) or possibly larger, depending on the taper of the needle points. I think you'd struggle to get them onto 12mm needles or anything like that size though. They have to be pushed on reasonably firmly to "stick" and, as another reviewer has noted, the small ones seem a little softer and squidgier than the large ones. All in all, a good buy and a useful addition to any knitter's needle case.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good in the right application, 11 July 2014

Arrived from the Netherlands within 2 weeks of ordering. Ideal for my PIR-operated outside light which requires a slim bulb that throws most of its light out sideways and can cope with frequent on-off cycles and sub-zero temperatures in winter. No indication of lumen output on the bulb itself or the packaging but I estimate equivalent to at least a 60W GLS. Looks a bit odd when not in use because of the yellow LEDs, and also when illuminated because of the multiple point sources of light, so best suited to a fitting where the bulb isn't visible. High colour temperature (6,500K) means a good white light, like an overcast sky. This is cheap compared with equivalent output LED bulbs on the High Street, provided it lasts as long as it should. The only reasons why I haven't given it 5 stars are: 1) no stated lumen output; 2) instructions and safety info only provided in German; and 3) weird appearance.
