5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Boiled and sizzling hot, 14 Mar. 2011
This review is from: BURN, BABY, BURN (Kindle Edition)
A sizzling hot yet chilling novel, this book doesn't pull its punches. It's muscular fiction in the vein of a modern Westlake, representing the heart and soul of pulp fiction. Get it and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars a triffic chiller, 19 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Hellogon (Kindle Edition)
Hellogon was a breeze to read, in fact it really helped me through a delayed flight, where any prospective companions were too busy texting each other to talk to me. Although completely different in content Hellogon made me think of Ray Bradbury's early chillers, in that it invokes a great eerie atmosphere that you as the reader just want to wallow in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting, 17 Sept. 2010
This review is from: The Cyclist (Paperback)
I read a lot. I've always got a book or two on the go, consequently I find that most books are a bit like straight to DVD movies, diverting enough while you are reading them but ultimately forgettable. Not so with this. The Cyclist stays with you, it haunts you and comes back at odd moments, not like a bad acid trip but like a melancholic yet comfortable memory. Read it. You won't be disappointed.

Pistols for Two, Breakfast for One
Pistols for Two, Breakfast for One
by Matthew J. Dick
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A Master Craftsman, 28 April 2010
Comic novels just like comic films are often viewed less favourably as art than the more serious works. In the case of Pistols for Two this is most definitely not the case. Each sentence reads as if it has been sweated over and honed to perfection. Barely a page goes by without raising a titter. I was lucky enough to shoplift my copy and let me tell you, it was well worth the risk of a fine or suspended prison sentence.

The Jugger: A Parker Novel (Parker Novels)
The Jugger: A Parker Novel (Parker Novels)
by Richard Stark
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.00

5.0 out of 5 stars No one does it better, 28 Dec. 2009
Stark does it again with this early Parker novel. It's a wonder HBO haven't produced a TV series out of these little fly away novels. The Jugger for me is Parker on top of his game. Noir at its best.

In the Miso Soup

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of foul air, 19 July 2005
This review is from: In the Miso Soup (Hardcover)
You've got to get this. It's a real page turner that's over in an instant. it's gritty, it's funny, it's horrific and it's compelling. It's got all the readability of a tough gritty hard boiled American thriller, but it's got soul too.
It's original and not cliched - it's just like breathing in a breath of fresh...but foul air.
