Truth Lies Bleeding
Truth Lies Bleeding
by Tony Black
Edition: Paperback
Price: 10.90

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, 5 April 2011
This review is from: Truth Lies Bleeding (Paperback)
I wasn't too familiar with Mister Black's work, until I read an article by my favorite crime writer, Sam Millar, highly recommending this book. The book was not a let-down. Very gritty. Very dark.
Bob Brennan is a terrific character for a book, and it's Black's amazing way with words which really bring him to life. I now will have to go back and start reading Mister Black's other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, 29 Mar 2011
This review is from: Falling Glass (Paperback)
My favorite Irish crime writer, Sam Millar, speaking on BBC radio called this book "The best Irish noir thriller of 2011." He wasn't kidding. I have never read any other books by Mister McKinty, but no doubt I will have to rectify that. Apart from the terrific story line, which I found (mostly) intriguing, it's his mastery of words which really made this book for me. There is something almost darkly poetic in his writing.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gritty as hell, 12 Mar 2011
This review is from: Thorn in My Side (Hardcover)
Sheila Quigley is a terrific crime writer, and Thorn in My Side will only add to the many accolades she has received over the years. No one else does gritty crime like Quigley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, 28 Feb 2011
Bought this after hearing crime writer, Sam Millar recommending it. I wasn't disappointed. The story is gripping, dark and told with a confident and authentic voice, which is often chilly. This is an excellent novel, from an excellent writer.

Insider: Gerry Bradley's Life in the IRA: Gerry Bradley's Forty Years in the IRA

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be read by all, 7 Jan 2011
the author of this book, Gerry Bradley, died shortly after the publication. He was driven to his death by book burners, and regardless if you agree with the authors's words, you should buy this book just to confound those apes who would wish us all to have no personal thoughts. The book actually is very enjoyable and gives an insight into one man's viewpoint of why he fought in a war. There are other excellent books out there wrote by ex-IRA men and two I would highly recommend. The Blanket Men by Richard O'Rawe Blanketmen: An Untold Story of the H-block Hunger Strike and of course the classic, On The Brinks On the Brinks by Irish crime writer, Sam Millar, now available on Kindle On The Brinks: The Extended Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious, 24 May 2010
Absolutely hilarious. From start to finish, you will be grinning with delight and wondering where the hell this guy has been all this time. There has to be a sequel of Holmes's book being planned by Wood. if not, I want to know why. If you know someone feeling down or in hospital, forget the grapes - bring Wood!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie, 30 Mar 2010
This review is from: The Hangover [DVD] [2009] (DVD)
This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The cast and story were simply brilliant and on top form. The scene with the tiger is worth buying the DVD, anyway.

The Wrong Kind of Blood (Ed Loy Mystery 1)
The Wrong Kind of Blood (Ed Loy Mystery 1)
by Declan Hughes
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.54

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful first novel, 18 Dec 2009
I belive this was Hughes' first book, and it is a cracker introducing us to Ed Loy. It remind me of Sam Millar's Karl Kane books - and that's not a bad thing! A few weak spots in the middle dragged the book slightly, but those little bits should be overlooked, and the ending was totally worth the wait.

Sanctuary
Sanctuary
by Ken Bruen
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: 7.02

3.0 out of 5 stars great read, 18 Dec 2009
This review is from: Sanctuary (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a great read from Bruen, though not his best. A bit disappointed with the ending, but all in all, well worth the cover price. Bruen is always good value, and this will not disappoint his mant fans.
