Great reading but one must suspend credibility in order to relate to characters so far removed from reality. Great for a study of the application of the finer points of English language.
Her review of the history of the monarchy is quite hilarious and quite out of character with the rest of her works.

I have long been an adherent of Pepys, and regard him, along with John Evelyn, as a wonderful source of historical information relating to people and events at the time of the Restoration and the ten following years. It is sad indeed that due to failing sight Pepys was obliged to cease to record the day by day events affecting his life and those of so many others.

A fascinating insight into the background of an American Presidential Election campaign with vignettes of all the principal contenders and their supporters, to whom few readers will be enamoured.
It is apparent that only very large sums of money will pave the way to the White House.

A 1960s Black & White series of business intrigue and ruthlessness. Well acted, photographed on a very limited range of locations but populated by a most engaging range of characters.
Strongly recommended.

This review is from: Moon in Scorpio (Hardcover)
This is a fascinating historical novel based in the London of the time of the Restoration, and Lancashire where Catholicism still sufferd some degree of supression. The story is romantic, but has many facets showing a considerable depth of research by the author, [perhaps better known for his "Mist over Pendle"].
Strongly recommended.

This is the final part of a 1960s TV series based on six novels by Anthony Trollope in which he creates an imaginary Nobility and Gentry populated by a wide range of characters of every human failing. The acting is superb and the dialogue engaging. I would suggest that the whole series should be viewed in order to understand the intigues and complexities of the story. This final part embraces all the cahracters previously met, and ends with few living a happy life and many being unable to fulfil their ambitions. In most cases their ill fate is richly deserved, showing, I believe, Trollope's contempt for the moneyed classes.

This is the third part of a 1960s TV series based on six novels by Anthony Trollope in which he creates an imaginary Nobility and Gentry populated by a wide range of characters of every human failing. The acting is superb and the dialogue engaging. I would suggest that the whole series should be viewed in order to understand the intigues and complexities of the story. This third part embraces all the characters previously met, and shows many of the supposed heroes to have feet of clay.
