Hidato Challenge: 200 Pure Logic Puzzles
Hidato Challenge: 200 Pure Logic Puzzles

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidatos Volume 2, 30 Jun. 2009
With Hidato's you are given a grid of squares with some numbers already filled in. The idea of the puzzles is to join all the numbers in sequence - as you would expect in each case there is only one unique logical solution.

This is the author's 2nd volume of puzzles, coming quickly after the first.

You get 200 puzzles for your money, gradually the puzzles increase in size and difficulty. There is only a small introductory segment giving advice on strategies to solve the puzzles, but this doesn't matter, you will be able to work out your own.

Just as the first volume, the book is sturdy and has a good, clear lay out.

All in all, both volumes are thoroughly recommended to puzzlers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting new puzzle type, 29 Jun. 2009

PURE ONE Mini, Compact Portable DAB/FM Radio - Black
PURE ONE Mini, Compact Portable DAB/FM Radio - Black

4.0 out of 5 stars Smart Little Radio, 11 April 2009
I am very satisfied with this little radio...........eventually!

I wanted a portable DAB radio. It wasn't made clear from the packaging that it also requires the purchase of a rechargeable insertable battery cell to run away from the mains. When the cell came, I found it was pretty difficult to fit in. It's a tiny little port awkwardly placed at the bottom edge of the battery compartment. I was at the point of giving up when (hey presto!) suddenly it slipped into place and it has been working very nicely ever since.

I've been listening to it most of today and the battery is still going strong, so the claim of 20 hours 'battery' life seems justified, this seems very good for a DAB radio. And it is very easy to recharge - you only need to plug the radio back into the mains and it will charge the cell for you. The sound quality is very reasonable for a small radio and it also works well with headphones.

I agree with those reviewers that, because of the problems discussed above, it would have been better for Pure to sell the radio with the battery already inserted. If you are not technically minded or do not have steady hands I would think twice re purchasing this radio with the purchase of the cell combined in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Puzzle Book, 15 Mar. 2009
Recommended to all logic puzzlers, especially for those looking for an alternative to the Sudoku craze which dominates the market.

The book contains 75 Hashi, 30 Hitori, 20 Mosaic and 75 Slitherlink. Of these, Hashi was my favourite before I came across but I've recently become a converted Slitherlink addict!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Japanese Puzzles Book, 8 Mar. 2009
An excellent large book of puzzles. A half of the puzzles are Sudokus and Kakuros and the rest are puzzles you may not have come across before including Hitori, Masyu and, my particular favourites, Nurikabe.

Recommended for puzzle enthusiasts.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Legal Drama, 14 Feb. 2009
This review is from: JAG Season 4 [DVD] (DVD)
Jag was produced by the same makers of Quantum Leap and spawned the sister series NCIS. Whilst it did not attain the popularity of either of the other shows, Jag is a very superior drama in its own right.

A mixture of thought-provoking story lines combined with effective acting combine to make this a very entertaining series for those interested mostly in legal drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining American Legal Drama, 13 Feb. 2009
This review is from: JAG Season 3 [DVD] (DVD)
JAG (Judge Advocate General) was a very entertaining series from the makers of the highly popular and successful Quantum Leap, and this program is endowed with the same quality.

Fine story lines (not overly complicated or slow) and well acted by the two central characters (played by David Elliott and Catherine Bell) with a fine supporting cast. The show, particularly the latter series, which tended to concentrate more on America's fights in Iraq and versus terrorism, did have an understandable American bias but many important and complex social issues were handled with great finesse and always with an undercurrent of gentle humour.

Absolutely good value and recommended.

(Catch the series weeknights on FX HD.)

5.0 out of 5 stars An underrated album, 6 Feb. 2009
This review is from: Shadowlands (Audio CD)
Agreed, this album is overshadowed by both Lex Rex and the gigantic Inconsolable Secret, but this is still an excellent album in it's own right. In fact this was probably GH's third strongest release, for instance significantly better than their latest Culture of Ascent.

The album is rather let down by the uninspiring cover of the tame Dan Fogelberg hit 'Closer - Why boys?

Nevertheless, Fred Schendel's dexterous pyrotechnics firmly establish as one of prog's very finest keyboard maestros and this is a worthy inclusion in any collection of fine prog.

5.0 out of 5 stars ProgArchives No.1 !!, 28 Jan. 2009
What's this, Fish meets Spock's Beard?

No, this is a new Scandinavian band producing their own new (branded by ProgArchives) 'eclectic prog', whatever that definition precisely means. To my ears, this just means quality music, and judging by the top rating for 2008 by ProgArchives, a lot of prog listeners agree with me.

Not a perfect release by any means but certainly one of 2008's best and most interesting. The rest of the album does not quite live up to the undoubted highlights, the opening segue of songs 'Into the Night' and 'The Hunter' and the centrepiece title track, measuring a whopping 36 minutes and counting. That's real prog! In fact 'SWT part 2' is arguably the best progressive track of the year, I've certainly heard nothing better, and is worth the price of the album alone.

Well done guys.

The Sun Two-Speed Crossword Collection: 160 Two-in-one Cryptic and Coffee Time Crosswords
The Sun Two-Speed Crossword Collection: 160 Two-in-one Cryptic and Coffee Time Crosswords

5.0 out of 5 stars Sun Two Speed Crosswords, 28 Dec. 2008
A brilliant value for money crosswords collection, at 2.5 pence per crossword. In fact, if you count each crossword as two (one cryptic and one coffee-time) it's even better value!

Personally, I tend to have to use both set of clues to help solve the crosswords, but others may prefer to use one of the sets of clues only to make the crosswords that bit harder.

Not being brilliant at crosswords myself, I don't think these are the hardest crosswords I've seen - which may be something that recommends you to buy this book or equally deters you!

The Sun Crossword collection books are well produced and sturdy, which is just as well as they are likely to take you a long time to complete! Thoroughly recommended.
