Floating Worlds (S.F. Masterworks)
Floating Worlds (S.F. Masterworks)
Price: 3.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual storyline, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I thought this started off with a fairly unlikely premise but it develops well. The story is slightly dated in places but still works.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fairly standard military SF bootcamp, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Quite well written story but still a fairly standard military boot camp storyline. There are a few interesting divergences from the usual to make it worth reading through to the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting take on the mongol horde, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well written story but as the Holland says it's more about the people than it is about the Mongol campaign. It does have an interesting take on the perceived brutality of the Mongols. I don't know too much of the period and how accurate the book is but the characters and their motives are more believable than the standard stupidly brutal portrayal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice light military SF, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A nice lightweight military SF series. Quite well written. It's mostly fairly predictable but has the occasional interesting twist. There's a hanging ending to keep you waiting for the next in the series. I'll stick with the series a bit longer but it was starting to drag for me by the end of this novel. Let's see if the author can tighten things up for the next one. On a side note - I'm getting a bit fed up with people saving the empire/galaxy/universe - can we keep the heroism a little smaller in scale? Maybe I'm just getting more cynical in my old age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Typical golden age SF, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Typical (in a good way) golden age SF, slightly dated now but still enjoyable for a short story. Interesting for the way the hero isn't a typical all round good guy.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The writing and story are reasonably well done but the sex scenes do jar. I can accept that the author may be trying to show that attitudes to sex are more relaxed but it doesn't work the way they're written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ties up loose ends, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nicely ties up lots of loose ends in the series but I suppose inevitably given the scale of the struggle the ending is slightly anti-climatic and feels somewhat rushed.

Well written stories of events in the life of a London bobby. There's some interesting background on Police procedures as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good but ... some drawbacks, 9 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've had this case a week now. First the good.
The case feels great, a slightly padded leather feel even though it's not real leather. It's a very strong design, the phone clips into one side into what seems to be a metal frame. The case is light weight however and very slim, it doesn't feel as though it's adding a lot of thickness to the phone and is nice and rigid.
The camera cut out is well placed. You can find a video on the net from showing the case which is quite accurate.
On to the bad - which may not be bad for some people but is enough to mean I'm looking for another case.
The case is secured using a magnetic clasp, it's not a very strong magnet but it's enough to hold the case closed most of the time. The problem is that the magnet prevents the phone's compass working. So if you're like me and sometimes use the phone to navigate when walking around you'll need to remove the phone from the case to be able to use the compass.
Even with the case open the magnet still interferes - maybe the metal backing is the problem.
The metal shell comes right up to the edge of the case. So tapping the case on the desk as I do sometimes means that you're tapping the metal frame and not the 'leather'. If the phone drops the metal shell will probably take most of the force - I'm not sure if this is good or bad but I'd have felt happier if the 'leather' was a bit longer so that it took the initial hit.
Also the stitching isn't that good and there is a plastic thread end sticking up from the outside of the case.
I find charging the phone a bit inconvenient - but that's more to do with the design of the phone, you have to have the case open to charge the phone.
I'll want to try and get a docking charger for the phone and I suspect that this case may cause some problems as the cover will need to be folded back to insert the phone into the dock. I'm not sure if the phone will fit with the cover on and folded back.
Finally I need to use the phone in the car as well and it's a bit of a faff removing the phone from the cover to mount it onto the dash mount (in addition to trying to connect the charger). Hopefully there'll be some car docks available soon (again a problem with the phone design rather than the case).
Overall if you're after a well fitted case and don't mind losing the compass feature when the phone is in the case I'd recommend this case. Me - I'm looking at a cheaper velcro fastened version but I'm still left with a problem when charging or in the car.

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems so far, 11 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It seems to be fine so far but I haven't used it extensively. It charges both the Ex-Pro battery and the original Sony battery with no issues so far. It's quite a slow charge but does the job.
Build quality is quite cheap but adequate.
