Brilliant Presentation: What the Best Presenters Know, Do and Say (Brilliant Business)
Brilliant Presentation: What the Best Presenters Know, Do and Say (Brilliant Business)
by Richard Hall
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.79

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best yet!, 19 Dec. 2014
As something of a self improvement book obsessive (my family and colleagues might say it is not working yet) I have read several books/blogs on presentation and speech making skills.
This is the best yet.
Richard Hall throws in some great anecdotes from his career in advertising and consultancy. What's great is that reading the book you feel this is advice from a lifetime of experience at the sharp end.

If you are worried about nerves/panic/fear then the long chapter on this topic is worth the price of the book alone.
The book is also bang up to date and I am persuaded by his claim that these days really great presentation skills are worth more than an MBA.
I am now reading his latest book (2014) and I hope he's already wokring on his next title!
Thanks very much Richard!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb classical guitar!, 14 Dec. 2014
This recording is sublime and beautiful. On holiday in France last summer I played it every morning before the rest of the family were awake. I continue to play it regularly.

If you love classical guitar and want a change from the well known spanish repertoire, please try this.

Likely to be a lot cheaper than current price on Amazon UK (currently £25) if you buy it at one of her concerts or a festival that she is playing at. Regret so much I was not present at her concert in 2014, Winchester UK. But next time I hope!

5.0 out of 5 stars I found myself getting up at 7am or earlier to get in an indulgent hour or so of reading enjoyment before other family emerged, 28 July 2014
I read this book on holiday in France summer 2013. I found myself getting up at 7am or earlier to get in an indulgent hour or so of reading enjoyment before other family emerged. It is a terrific page turner. The other five start reviews here are correct in my opinion. They cover a lot of detail so I will keep this one short.

This was my introduction to this fantastic US band. Great CD. The other reviews here are spot on.

5.0 out of 5 stars All aboard!, 28 July 2014
By reading this book I learnt a lot about what it is like to live on board a US aircraft carrier, and also about what it is like on board Geoff Dyer...or at least the version of Geoff Dyer he presents through these pages. In places it is very funny because Dyer is frank about the less admirable personal preoccupations and desires that many of would also admit to, if forced.

I would add that your local library may have this book, so try there first. The pictures in the book are very good so the printed copy is preferable to the e-reader version.

The most enjoyable and illuminating book I have read since 1922 Constellation of Genius, last summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond any rating, simply superb, 13 Feb. 2014
This review is from: The Roches (Audio CD)
I have been meaning to write this for about 12 years.
This is a unique work of magical musical genius.
There is nothing else like it.
Harmony singing. But nobody else sounds like this.
Songwriting - profound, funny, moving.
And it swings.

Robert Fripp produced it and played and added subtle effects and atmospherics (listen to Hammond Song).

In a just and sane world where genuine talent and originality were properly recognised, the Roches would be famous.
But never mind. We will always have this peerless album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incluces two special live versions, 7 Mar. 2013
This review is from: 20 Years of Jethro Tull (Audio CD)
This CD is worth buying for the live recordings from Hammersmith Odeon (as was) in 1987.
Wond'ring Aloud features the excellent Don Airey contributing keyboard atmospherics and a lovely piano part, which make for a really great version of one of Ian Anderson's best loved songs.

Dun Ringill is also terrific with Ian and Martin on acoustic guitars and Dave Pegg on mandolin and singing too. It has a nice "false" stop at the end when start playing the main cyclical riff as the audience is applauding.
Before the song starts there is a rather distracting bang which sounds like someone dropping a mic or guitar lead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way way beyond my expecations, 18 Oct. 2012
Just back from the Screen Cinema in Winchester. Objective summary: the film is sensational, it looks utterly great, it sounds fantastic. Way beyond my expectations! It is fantastically well edited, excellent but not excessive use of film effects including what looks like super eight "fan footage" shot from the audience, and some great slow-motion moments too. Most importantly, the cutting between shots is not too fast, as has been a common complaint in other band concert films. There some lovely close-ups of Page's beautiful Gibson guitars too.

It is fabulous to see so much eye contact, smiles and warmth between the band - most of the time they are standing very close together - no long catwalk excursions here. A real sense of joy is palpable throughout.

My face is hurting from smiling so much. The whole thing is beyond terrific but if forced to pick highlights I'd say the epic, pulverising Kashmir, a lovely Stairway, and Trampled Underfoot, Nobody's fault but mine, and the "never played live before" from Presence - For your life (great black and white backdrop projections on that song). Oh hang on, I've just remembered, Since I've been loving you was an absolute tour de force too!

Thank you so much for releasing this Led Zeppelin.
