Very good indeed, 28 Oct. 2010
Elder's Twilight of the Gods is on a very large scale. Tempi are broad and spacious, and the orchestral sound is clear and bright. Though recorded live, what one would miss is perhaps that true live feeling, as it is not recorded during an opera-stage performance, but during a concert. As a Swede, it is highly welcoming to hear Cleveman and Dalayman in these roles, which they also took at the Royal Opera in Stockholm a couple of years ago. The Twilight of the Gods is, naturally, a closing opera, where the path of destiny can weigh quite heavily; there is this feeling that it cannot end well, and that people, gods, and others, are more or less doomed. In a way, this is very apparent in this performance. A more energetic performance, with quicker tempi could perhaps render the feeling, that our protagonists really cared, and were striving for to come out of the old structures...
