Evans B14G2 Genera G2 14-inch Tom / Snare Drum Head
Evans B14G2 Genera G2 14-inch Tom / Snare Drum Head
Price: £10.50

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful heads, always consistent and reliable, 12 Jan 2013
I've used these skins for about 12-13 months on my kit so far (a small jazz drumset) and I'd highly recommend them to anybody requiring a versatile, warm round sound that works in most if not all musical situations. They also age well and the coating wears less easily then it's popular counterpart, Remo Emperors. They are also incredibly consistent and always of a high quality, so that you know if you get the same head the next time it won't waiver from the feel and tone of the last heads.

Also on Amazon they're at the most competitive price, you'll be hard pressed to beat it! Great skins :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sticks, ridiculously low price!, 10 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought 2 pairs of these sticks from Amazon not too long ago out of curiousity more than anything, for an incredible £4.30, I'm not sure if they'll stay that price but it's a massive plus for now!
The sticks I got were very high quality, beautifully balanced and even in pitch and weight with each other. The tip is a very defined shape that brings out a very specific sound on both the cymbals and drums. The taper is gradual and leaves it with a nice easy rebound, good for doubles around your kit. The butt itself is a comfortable size just under a 5A (5A is normally .565, these are .555) which does me very well personally.
If they remain this price, I would recommend you get a pair just to try them as you'll never find these cheaper anywhere else, if you love them like I do then all the better! :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sticks at a price you can't beat (as usual on Amazon!), 3 Jan 2013
DIAMETER: 0.512"
LENGTH: 15 3/8"

I've played a pair of these sticks for quite a long time now, essentially for my entire first term at university. I've played them heavily for these last few months now across a selection of styles and they've held up just great! They're well-balanced for my personal preference (with that standard Pro-mark front heaviness, pick a pair up in your local music shop and see what I mean!), the broad tip gives a bigger sound than you might think for a stick of this diameter and their light weight allows you to play very gently as well as very loudly. Granted I have not played many heavy gigs during this term (no hard-rock/metal playing, so I probably wouldn't advise them to someone going for the harder sound) however these are about half an inch of length away from Elvin Jones' signature stick, so take a listen to his big powerful sound and think that's actually what these can achieve when played with some gusto!
Beautiful sticks, would recommend them heartily, and at Amazon's price they're an absolute steal! :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, a must-read for any aspiring professional drummer!, 27 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is a collection of advanced material, further exploring the kind of stuff that Tommy Igoe set out in his first book. I would definitely recommend that any drummers of any level look into buying the first book and thoroughly making use of that first before buying this one as this directly follows on and builds upon that foundation.
Tommy Igoe has given drummers a really educational, really challenging and ultimately really fun book/cd/dvd package. The songs are of excellent quality, the notations and charts are clear and easy to read and the writing that accompanies it is inspiring, dripping with his New York sense of humour!
If you're confident with the material in the first book, this is worth every penny to you, plain and simple :-)

Vic Firth Extreme 5A American Hickory Wood Tip Drumstick
Vic Firth Extreme 5A American Hickory Wood Tip Drumstick
Price: £7.55

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully made, well balanced sticks!, 27 Dec 2012
These are fabulous sticks for the most competitive price anywhere (only 5p more than VF's regular 5a!).
Well made, I bought two pairs at random at a music shop and they're both dead straight and pitch matched, and I wouldn't expect any less from Vic! Having bought pairs of sticks online I can say to someone looking into buying these off of Amazon would not be disappointed, rest assured you'll get the same consistency Vic Firth pride themselves on.
Compared to VF's regular 5A, these sticks are 1/2 of an inch longer, giving it slightly more weight and just enough extra length to be noticeable when you try them on a kit. For an extra 5p, you might as well try a pair out for yourself! :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Textbook Crash, Great Value For Money!, 11 Nov 2012
This review is from: Stagg SH 16" Medium Crash
As the proud owner of one of these crashes for a couple of years now, I'd like to let anybody interested in checking Stagg cymbals out that these are fantastic sounding cymbals and having done a test with a friend's 16" Zildjian K Dark Medium-Thin Crash in a studio, that these cymbals can certainly stand up to the big boys for a fraction of the price!
In fact I play a full set of the SH line by Stagg, and their versatility continues to shine through in every situation, as I play a lot of varying genres in both live and studio situations and they deliver every time, they even get regular compliments from sound technicians as being very easy to work with, great sounding cymbals.
The only thing I'd like to point out is that when purchasing Stagg cymbals, their weight branding isn't quite the same as the major companies in that they're normally one notch down from what they say they are in weight when compared to cymbals by the major manufacturers. For example here where they specify "Medium", this cymbal is nearer to a "Medium-Thin" cymbal by Zildjian's or Sabian's standards. Just something to bear in mind!
Try or buy one when you can, you won't be disappointed! :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favourite Splash- Great Value For Money!, 11 Nov 2012
This review is from: Stagg SH 10" Medium Splash
A textbook, spot-on splash sound. Don't let the price fool you- many drummers including myself will tell you that Stagg cymbals are really standing up to the major cymbal manufacturers in terms of sound quality at the moment and their splashes are no exception. These are B20 bronze alloy cymbals (the same alloy as the top-end cymbals from the top brands, think Zildjian Avedis/K's, Paiste 2002's, Sabian HHX/AAX etc) and so I personally find them of a higher sound quality than the budget-line bronze or brass cymbals that each of these brands produce.
You won't be disappointed if you pick one up here on Amazon without trying it (and at this price, you might as well!), but if not then go down to your local music shop and hear the difference for yourself. :-)

Los Cabos 5a Red Hickory Drum Sticks
Los Cabos 5a Red Hickory Drum Sticks

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual, well made sticks!, 11 Nov 2012
I tried these sticks at a local music shop not too long ago out of curiosity, and to my surprise the balance was very nice, the woodwork felt of a high quality (smoothness and tip definition comparable to the major stick brands) and to boot, the red hickory of these sticks looks quite attractive as well! You won't be disappointed by these sticks or indeed this brand.

As a quick warning to anybody looking into these sticks, they're also slightly heavier and darker sounding than your regular 5A sticks due to the denser properties of red hickory over the regular white hickory used in drumsticks. If you fancy trying out this brand but don't want a different feel of stick, they also do a very high quality range in white hickory as well.

Great sticks, great brand. Buy some now! :-)

Offered by Musikhaus Hübner
Price: £11.66

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic sticks, up-and-coming brand!, 10 Nov 2012
These are great sticks, having regularly played Vic Firth, Pro-Mark and Vater sticks I can assuredly tell you that these sticks stand up to the big boys in feel, balance, quality of the woodwork and indeed also pitch-matching.
As for the grip, having tried the Zildjian and Vic Firth counterpart to this product, I would say this is certainly on par with the Vic Firth in touch and even distribution of the rubber on the butt of the stick and certainly a far higher quality than the Zildjian Dips.
Buy a pair and try it out, you will not be disappointed. Good company, good sticks! :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Advanced Material, 7 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A book of advanced exercises for drummers of any genre to consider and work on (please don't be put off by the title! These exercises will benefit any drummers willing to put the time in to unlock their benefits).
Each exercise has been taken from John Riley's collection of articles to such magazines as ModernDrummer, and each one features a well-written explanation of how to practice it and how it will benefit you musically as well as any illustrations that may run alongside it.
If you're new to the world of jazz drumming or feel you might need a bit more of a primer before facing more advanced material such as this, I highly recommend spending some time with John Riley's other books "The Art of Bop Drumming" and "Beyond Bop Drumming", both books are invaluable to understanding jazz playing technically and more importantly, musically.
