Paul Miro does country, well dark country. It's the sort of song that could fit well on a film like ghost rider.
The song sounds exactly as you might imagine, so go on.. take that devil for a ride.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first series, 31 Mar 2014
So much to like here. The setting, the mystery, the acting. Sadly what lets it down is how it all comes together, or rather doesn't. Too many unsatisfying threads, not enough power in the last couple of episodes. It's a shame after how good the first series was but I can hope that series three is back on track.

When I first heard of this I was intrigued but not sold on the idea, however having heard good things I was keen to give it a try. So having watched it I'm recommending it to everyone. very gentle and touching with a great performance from Frank Langella.

3.0 out of 5 stars Twice as long as it needs to be., 15 Jan 2014
This review is from: Gravity [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
The effects of the film are very good, the 3D very impressive. the script has some great elements but ultimately meanders in the second act going into the third. Sandra bullock and george clooney do very well but the characters aren't very engaging which makes their stores hard to invest in, which is where the film falters as the scenario and thrills are excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly good show., 15 Jan 2014

Batman/Dark knight comparisons are unavoidable, and ultimately hurt the show, however look past these and persevere and you will be rewarded. The set up is very much like Batman, the first few episodes are pretty strong despite this, however it soon meanders with family drama and forced love stories and lacklusture villains. However it starts to pick up again and in the second half of the series it really gathers speed turning from average to not only a genuinely good show but has an excellent series finale, one of the best I've seen on an action/adventure TV series. While none of the cast are going to win any awards for their work here, for the most part they are pretty solid. Stephen Amell is better than most give him credit for, there is such a difference in oliver between the old/early times on island and the man that comes back. He does to stoic hero very well.
Diggle is the heart of the show and adds a more relatable everyman touch from the millionaires who are hard to sympathize with.
The action scenes are a little quick cut and stylized for my tastes early on but this is improved later in the series. Manu Bennet and John barrowman add some weight to the cast later as well, providing some of the more interesting story elements.
Well worth watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good sequel that ties the previous movies together nicely., 15 Jan 2014
This review is from: Riddick [DVD] (DVD)
Pitch black was a taut sci fi thriller, chronicles was an overly ambitious sci fi epic that didn't quite hit the mark. Riddick marries the two very well, solid performances and excellent special effects and a tighter story than chronicles. It does lack the tension of pitch black and blatantly recreates elements of that film, but it works. I honestly wish more filmslike this were made these days, but then I'm a fan of the genre. The film sets up a sequel nicely and I sincerely hope that becomes a reality.

I will admit I like ALL of the wonder stuffs albums, sure some are superior to others but Miles and co are good song writers and even an off period is better than many artists manage in their entire career. Escape from rubbish island and suspended by stars had their moments even if they didn't hit the heights of the earlier albums. Oh no is being hailed as a return to formand a great comeback... is it? Not far off if I'm honest. The changes in line up from the last albums has helped, especially former PWEI drummer Fuzz who seems a perfect fit.
Musically it has more energy than the previous two, perhaps three albums combined. the band are clearly revitalized. Lyrically i have yet to fully asses but some songs certainly have the same lyrical bite as miles has always had. More to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album you never heard of., 4 Feb 2013

Irish band Mako have risen from the ashes of cyclefly, if you heard of them.. no? never mind. Living on air as a pretty straight forward album full of catchy songs that should have a broad appeal and never out stay their welcome. Living on air is 13 tracks (14 with an acoustic version of an earlier song) all of which are exceptionally high quality

Monkey on my back starts of slowly but picks up soon enough, lyrically reflective but nonspecific it can mean little or a lot. Unstoppable sings of the power and stupidity of youth, and is a cracking song to back it up. All that I get follows and keeps a similar theme and picks the pace a little more.
Things slow back down with Lost in translation. what isn't lost is the quality of Declan O'sheas vocals.
Grace is softer again and the words are delivered softly and poetically. Alive is something of a change, it's loud and brash in comparison yet isn't out of place. The promise, Afterglow and the censor keep the pace and are all absolutely cracking tunes.
Miss alison is something of a diversion, which is welcome as while the previous three songs are all great they are similar enough that a change is needed. Feel the music is another catchy rocker before You and me delivers a softer pop sensibility. Monster closes the album (unless you count the acoustic version of Grace) and it fades things out quite nicely. If I could level any complaint with the album is that it has so many great songs with a similar tempo that a few seem to blend but it's a minor issue in the scheme of things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best JRPG since FF VII, in my opinion anyway., 3 Feb 2013
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Okay, first off I'm not a massive fan of JRPGs, I prefer the likes of Mass effect, fallout and elder scrolls. In fact I haven't played a JRPG to completion since FF X. All too often I'm put off by irritating and unrelatable character, dull/over complicated combat and well too much of the same. JRPGS seem to have become quite stagnant. So why is ni no kuni different? well for a start the main character is likable, further more your companion Mr drippy is quirky and funny without being too annoying. Further more while it is a straight forward JRPG in many ways it sticks to formula and does it well rather than try to over complicate things. I guess in many ways it takes a leaf from the book of the Zelda series, simple (on the outside) accesible and charming. It eases you into a fantasy world gradually rather than forcing it down your throat, which makes for a nice change.
Visually it is very pretty, which is no doubt the main draw for many people considering the studio ghibli involvment, but the ghibli influence doesn't stop at the visuals as it is very much like playing through a studio ghibli film. high praise indeed I would say.

The more I progress into the game the more I appreciate it, and from a cynical old git like me to be taken with a game like this says a hell of a lot.
