Classic FM's 'Best Buy', 6 Nov. 2004
I hope it is not too presumptuous, as co-author, to respond to the comments of the disgruntled Mr Weems with a quotation from the review in the December issue of Classic fm Magazine, which gave the book five stars and nominated it as its 'Best Buy' of the month:
Jeremy Nicholas wrote: "...The beautifully produced and generously illustrated book is written con amore but by no means uncritically. It is painstakingly researched and annotated... The prolific footnotes are a treat in themselves, but, best of all, this study inspires one to listen to the music - to investigate the works that are seldom heard, and to return with fresh ears to the popular ones. The engaging narrative with its cast of colourful characters reads like a novel. It is also the definitive life of this towering musician, composer and, yes, rogue genius."
