Couldn't get through the winter without it!, 1 Nov 2012
I bought this wonderful little light last winter when after two winters of pretty awful depression that would miraculously disappear in March I put two and two together and got SAD and decided to invest in a light box.
I did quite a lot of research into different options and decided on a Lumie Zip.
The pros for me:
The size - I work in an office so it is small and easy to position on my desk without moving anything around
The direction of the light - I know that this is a con for some, but the fact that I only light up myself and not my entire office when it is on means that actually it is more discreet and I spend less time having to explain to people why my desk is glowing! Once you work out the angle it's very easy to position it in the right place for you, especially if like me you don't move from a computer while you're doing it.
The portability - I keep my charger plugged in under my desk. I don't have to worry about positioning the light near a plug socket so I can use it wherever I want. The battery also lasts long enough that I can take it home over the weekend without the charger so I don't have to miss crucial light time or scramble under my desk to unplug and replug it in every week.
The timer - I love the fact that I just set it for my 30 mins and when its done it gradually dims off, I don't use extra battery unnecessarily cause I've lost track of time and don't switch it off too early because I didn't look when I turned it on. The dimming is also fantastic so you don't get any effects of going from bright light to normal light like black spots.
The only cons if I had to find some:
The battery indicator - this isn't very accurate! It goes from 3 bars to none quickly and the battery still continues to last quite a long time after it says none.
I also don't like that you can't charge it with the kickstand fully down so I occasionally accidently kick it when its charging under my desk.
Overall, I love my little Zip and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone that struggles in the winter. It is worth every penny and I wouldn't be exaggerating when I said that this has changed my life.
