Yamaha YAS101bl SoundBar System with Built-In Subwoofer - Black
Having purchased an LED tv, I found, like a lot of buyers I guess, that the sound was somewhat thin....like the tv.! So that led me to look at sound equipment to give it a boost, but I didn't want to have speakers around the room and especially not the tall slim ones. After looking on line at various options I bought the Yamaha blind but had experience of the brand and guessed that it would be a good buy; I wasn't looking for something that cost the earth but wanted something I could listen to that was good and faithfully reproduced the sound.
The package arrived bang on time - good old DPD - and from receiving it to listening it took around 10 minutes; very easy to install in front of the tv and wire up using the fibre optic cable included; there is a template included if you wanted to wall hang it. The sound is excellent from what is quite a small unit and I've no regrets at all with the purchase from a performance point of view. It may take some time to get used to the surround sound as I've not had that before but I love being THERE - watching a movie is a big advantage with the extra dimension of sound. I also have Apple TV so I can play iTunes through my iPad and get the sound through that way - why does anyone ever buy cd's any more!
The only slight drawback might be that the unit stands on legs and thus blocks the infra red receiving signal from the tv remote; the blurb says that the Yamaha will 'learn' the signals but if it doesn't the legs are removable and it's certainly not a problem. The other way of course is to place the tv on a book and raise it around 20mm.
If you want a good, relatively inexpensive piece of kit to bring decent sound to add to your viewing, I'd not hesitate to recommend it; the only other one I might have bought would have been the BOSE, but with the price tag it came with, I wasn't prepared to go there. You won't be disappointed!
