5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Observation..., 5 Feb. 2011
This review is from: We English (Hardcover)
Saw the exhibition and bought the book. This is a stunning observation of a nation on a grand scale, worth every penny if you appreciate a real masterpiece of the photographers art.

Bollos, can I have your copy to pass on to a mate?!

5.0 out of 5 stars The fount of all wisdom, 11 Aug. 2010
This review is from: The Photography Reader (Paperback)
If you are studying photography as a student (or even just as a keen photographer) this is the book for you. For students this is the source book and sacred reference for a constant stream of Distinctions. So cool to have all the best reference sources in one handy book. Need to write a seriously arty and learned essay? No problem, a good hour of skimming and all the references and quotes are yours!

The real joy of this book though is that it's a real voyage of discovery, and jumping off point, for those of us who actually take that study seriously. It's a superb read, a distillation of much photographic and semiotic wisdom into one book, and through that read it leads, internet-like, to a myriad links to other sources and essays.

If you have any interest in photographic analysis, and to be honest, you'd hardly be reading this review otherwise, buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right place, right time..., 30 Jan. 2009
This review is from: NIYAZ / NIYAZ (Audio CD)
Browsing the magazines waiting for a flight from Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, sad to be leaving such a wonderful city and this extraordinarily soulful and beautiful flow began to unfold from the speakers in the shop... I've never bought a cd on the impulse of 30 seconds of one track on a shop PA before, but this was it, and what a wonderfuly fortunate piece of rashness!

From start to finish a feeling of joy, lightness and passion, a double espresso for the soul.

To balance it, get hold of a copy of Aman Aman by Duman and feel the cool abandon of a warm Saturday evening in Galata, mines an Efes!

5.0 out of 5 stars probably the best album ever made..., 30 Oct. 2004
This review is from: Sahra (Audio CD)
I've lived with this album for about 5 years, we've had fallings out, we've ignored each other, and I've always come back to it. Aicha is probably the best single anyone has ever released, the Shurik'N rap segment blows me away every time I hear it (still) in fact I bought his back catalogue as well as that of his usual group IAM on the strength of it...
Khaled, unparalled talent, whether you are Francophone or not the sheer quality of the music should strike you, or are you Anglophone only dead from the ears inwards?
You really need this in your life. Trust me.
