5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs , but the album layout is a pain, 8 July 2008
This review is from: Second Coming (Audio CD)
I think the band wanted to force people to listen to the record end to end.... The 'trick' of making the songs start 3 mins into random music spoils this album. If they wanted you to listen why include so much random noise.

It fails on the basics. If you want to listen to made of stone, it's track 8 on there first album. Simple. One great song after another...

If you want to listen to 10 Story Love Song --- god knows where it is on this CD. Amazing songs on this record. But actually being able to find them would have been a good idea.

10 Story Love song tho is head & shoulder above any other indy ballad , as other posters say Razorlight, strokes etc are just a joke next to the Stone roses. Really It's in a different League.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep What Ya Got, 2 July 2008
This review is from: Solarized (Audio CD)
There's the rest of my music, then Ian Brown, simple as.

This is the last album I had left to buy...n yeah it is on it high points better then every other band / artist I know, he does not disapoint I was smilling with in seconds of putting the CD on. I LOVE Keep What you got, had it repeat now for ages. Other people don't make songs that good, if they do I haven't found them.

I love the way the music is always so simple but so good. And the Lyrics
simpe n true , he can get away with saying simple stuff other people can't. I think Golden Gaze is a bit more polished end to end. This & The world is yours loose it in places. u can't measure him next to other bands tho so is still 5*

This is more chilled & Keep What Ya Got is becoming a favourite ever track.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Looking, OK pics., 21 Jun 2008
I bought this camera from Jessops after my Ricoh R6 broke - It's slightly unfair to compare them but the pictures were worse on the Nikon. Although it does take flattering people shots, better than the 'clinical' R6 on quick snaps.

Overall +

> Well made, nice case, very small, near identical to the casio camera's. Lithium battery.

> Flattering people shots are very easy, Pics are soft focus. Outdoor pics have nice colors. Option to shoot 16 pics on one frame - looks good.

> Nice Menu, well designed, quite intuitive. (usb card compatible with asus eee pc)

Minus -

> Poor picture quality in some settings; Takes very grainy indoor pics, except people shots.

> All photo's are soft focus. despite high no of pixels they do not enlarge well

> Poor at capturing surfaces, Limited settings & Zoom.

This is a great fun camera. But the picture quality lead me to return it in a week. I take a lot of indoor shots and it is not good for this. And it won't capture an image that will make a poster. But people pics are good.

Hope this helps...

Simon

4.0 out of 5 stars Kettle Revolution, 11 Jun 2008
This is quite a breakthrough in the world of kettles. They use so much electricity
the commercial break in Coronation street can be measured on the National Grid.

Was a little disappointed at first. It is surprisingly noisy (about the same as a kettle at full boil) - takes a while to fill a cup.

But it does so with one press and turns out to be very convenient. & it looks nice, made in France.

It's hot enough for tea. If you warm the cup/ hold it near the spout. & does take away the grime you get from hard water. Filters are 5 though . If your very picky it might not satisfy you, but for me it's fine.

Was tempted to give it five stars, think inventions like this should be supported.
It is very convenient - could be slightly quieter but overall would recommend it
I hope they make a few more like this as it will save a lot of electricity.

Philips SHE9500/00 - In-Ear Headphones

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst earphones ever. They give you a nasty headache to, 21 May 2008
I'm sorry to write a bad review.

But these are terrible earphones. I recomend buying sennheiser or JVC
I took these back to the shop after breaking in c 1 month and got a nice pair of JVC ones.

- Sound is high pitched tinny, like someone blowing a dog whistle in your ear. I still have earache from them. It is detailed. but very unpleasent ot listen to... If you own these try a pair of poundland earphones... you will notice even they sound better and less harsh.

- Chord is rubbery and cheap. Tangles very easily and seems to be designed so the break quickly. 1 month for me.

- Don't buy them! I have JVC HAFX55 now, plain looking and the same price, but SO MUCH better.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Metal bands out there!! This rocks!!!, 12 April 2008
This review is from: Hypocrisy (Audio CD)
This one of the best pieces of heavy metal I own!!! Better then Zero signal by fear factory (stolen by my neighbor!). Hypocrisy are the best Death metal band I've heard.

The whole growling and very heavy guitars works! Peter Tagtrem is a genius at pulling it off. This record should sell better. The band are there own producers so no one says stop.. there are a few dubious tracks on the album but...

Fractured Millennium is really good. Sounds a bit like early hypocrisy crossed with early Metallica, gratuitous 1 min intro with great riffs, and a blinding guitar solo cutting into the last chorus.

Fusion Programmed Minds is gory and surprisingly catchy like a chorus on a chorus ... Looses it in the middle but the ending is awesome. Played loud it's a scary track.

OK rest of album is err... think Tagtrem discovered pink floyd - did say so somewhere he had (why ???) but it's forgotten again by there Virus Album :)

They have some good live albums to. They play note for note live but keyboards are less prevelant and I think they sometimes sound better.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG! This will give you a headache!, 12 April 2008
This review is from: PI [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
For 5 this film is a bargain, cheaper then a cinema ticket. Is worth the DVD if u didn't see it!

This film is in black and white and i thought it might be dull.... but oh no
from tecno matrix style opening. To the repetitive scenes of being shot with a tranquiliser gun this film is one of weirdest I've ever seen. It kinda set to music, there's a headache inducing noise throughout the film if you can call it that.

This is supposed to be a window into the mind of a paranoid genius with a mysterious formula that might explain ..., everything! or the stock market maybe. And perhaps it's pretty realistic?? despites it's craziness the lead character is believable... you start believing in his crazy formula to! The black and white really works making everything feel 'quantified'.

Then people start offering him millions of pounds ... and like a crazy person he naturally trys to run away! not wrecking the plot, that's about the first 3 minutes!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifuly shot. dubious message, 12 April 2008
The first half of this film is brilliant. Sooo well shot, I love the scenes on the pier and the film drifts like a dream. The soundtrack is brilliant, going from atmospheric, to amazing time lapsed scenes to classical music. I love it!

But the second half descends into catastrophe. It's much better than bjorks depressing 'dancer in the dark' but similar; Bjorks film deliberately destroys all it's characters for the sake of a tragic ending, and this is done to prove some 'point'.

This film cynically destroys every character it creates in the first half, ruined by there own action almost biblically! I think it's much more puritanical then it looks and slightly heartless hence the 4 stars. But is still quite a masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucid, 12 April 2008
This review is from: The Grass Arena (Paperback)
I don't read much but this book is gripping. I picked it up and ended up reading it for half an hour in the shop... and kinda had to buy it!

This is an autobiography of a boxer & drunk, who became a great chess player whilst in prison.

I'm not well read but I've never seen anyone describe life so lucidly on page. It's sooo much better than any novel i read. There's a lot of brutality in this book and it's not always a pleasant read. But the author has little self pitty and bounces back from the most dire situations.

I admit i haven't finished it. It's like a window into a world that you don't always want to look into. But gripping when your there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have finally bought my Asus Eee PC. And yes it's great!,, 11 April 2008
Have finally bought my Asus Eee PC. And yes it's great!

Other than the webcam and memory (small on all models) There is no difference between the 2G and other models; Identical processors operating system, RAM & box. And the 2G are much easier to find and less marked up.

>> Good Points

> Superb Build Quality, the best i have seen on any laptop. It looks like it's from apple. but even more robust. An extremely well designed product , roughly the size & weight of a book an can be picked up in one hand easily. It's very portable. Can't wait to take it down the beach and to cafes it's perfect for this.

The processor / RAM in the Eee PC is the same as in much more expensive UMPC 's (eg. Vye) most use the 900mhz intel mobile chip.

> Good office tools. was surprised by this but the Spreadsheet, Word & Presentation tools are very good. Would make quite a good portable office. even has port for a projector. The operating system is significantly better than windows XP home and much cheaper than XP Pro.

MS could learn from this - they rob themselves of the UMPC market by charging 100 for software when the machines themselves cost c 150.
In fairness the Eee PC office tools are carbon copies of MS Excel / Word / PPt - just much much cheaper.

> Wireless. Picked up about 5 wireless networks from my flat! I think the surf model have a slightly better wireless feature but no webcam.
Compatible with T Mobile web n walk modem ( Hinari USB Modem) . This does take a little manual reading but was quite easy.

> Internet including picture / video / flash based sights work great.

> Boots up very quickly. Just a few seconds.

>> OK it's 180 Points

> Small screen, but it is cute. I still like it It reproduces colours very well and does not look pixilated at all. Can handle small text clearly.

> Can run c 3 aps at a time, not much more. And struggle with 5 + web windows. I don't think this is a problem. This is a portable Fun PC. but is not really for multi tasking.

> Speakers are not 'high definition' quite loud but sound is a bit tinny.

> USB Modems drain battery life to c 2.5 hours. Still good.

> Add on the cost of memory card bacase the 2G device has none left!
most of the 2G is taken up by the operating system

This is a fanstastic product that has 'Invented' the UMPC market.
