Alessandrini has one a great lenght to play Monteverdi the way he should: so gives back to one of the greatest musicians the splendor he deserves. No music lover can miss this execution (together with the other Madrigali cds).

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful new version, 19 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
'The four seasons' is an all time classic..but in my opinion somehow spoiled by the the first executions by 'I Musici'..more on the romantic-turistic side than on the fifologic one.
Alessandrini rediscovers the sound of original instruments and the brilliant tones of the baroque orchestra: you discover with him an almost entirely new Vivaldi..and what a great one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best in inquiries, 19 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First class first person research, an all time classic on heroin trade..and who has organized and got profit from it. The new edition has added a wonderful short but complete history of the subject from the origins. You can't find a better and more complete book on this theme.

1.0 out of 5 stars the worst Mozart direction, 27 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Requiem [DVD AUDIO] (DVD Audio)
If you like Mozart go with mozartian directors, people who like Mozart and not just themselves.
And possibly with the growing ligue of 'filological' directors, people who use the same instruments and instruments number-not people who use 3 times as much just to make more noise-like the horribly infidel Karayan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful movie, awful edition, 27 Dec. 2008
The greatest western movie ever..or a good candidate anyway: it gives epic and credibility, and you feel history in its making...
But how can Amazon dare sell an edition with only English language??? No Italian language (wasn't it shot in Italian?), not even subtitles: it's chauvinism at its most. Like many other Amazon titles (see f.i. the Leone cycle of 'Spaghetti western').

The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe
The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe
by Roger Penrose
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Per aspera ad astra, 8 May 2006
I agree with other reviews: Penrose is overly optimistic-or it's just a trick to introduce Math; but he has to; I hate Physics writers that in order not to use Math resort to analogies: that's the best way to kill any real understanding.

But it's also true that the book is not for the fainthearted: anyone without a good knowledge of Math will be lost since the very first pages.

But what a prize do you get if you can manage to go on! His treatment of Math is really wonderful and full of new insights, and from there he can really master the development of modern Physics.

I've been teaching both Maths and Physics for quite a long time, but I've learned a lot from this book, and I think that anybody with at least a High School degree should give it a try: even if you can't go to the very end. any insight you'll get will be precious.

5.0 out of 5 stars best high level review of state-of-the-art physics, 17 April 2003
This is the most comprehensive and fascinating review of today's phisicists struggle to find the 'theory of everything'. Very well written, clear but always up to the point, it contains essays by both philosophers and physicists along a very clear and well organized path. It is not for the fainthearted, since you need to know quite a lot of physics in order to take full advantage of it, but even for the occasional reader it's full of beatifully drawn insights. And it will change forever the way you look at the world around you.
