5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 5 Aug 2014

Slimline and ergonomically pretty good - better than you'd expect for the price, anyhow. The mouse is slightly too small (and I don't have huge hands), but is basically free, so fair play. Reception range of the keyboard improves enormously when (using on a desk) the lugs on the back are flipped up (which raises the back of the keyboard) but I find it less comfortable to use that way. A great keyboard for using e.g. on the sofa. Unfussy and clean design, no added extras. Quick keys along the top v useful, bank receiver tiny (which is great). On balance, full marks.

Easy installation too. Only thing: annoying green light on whenever it has power running to it, even if it's not doing anything. Not too much of a hardship though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super-fun (but surprisingly clever) guide to psychology, 5 Aug 2014
This is brilliant fun - a guide to psychology through dozens of bite-size quizzes, puzzles, jokes and some really eye-opening debunkings of famous experiments. The author is genuinely knowledgeable and has a wicked sense of humour. It's serious psychology but serious fun too. Every page has a new treat!

1.0 out of 5 stars No thanks, 19 Jun 2014
Terrific program - still by far the best - but terrible subscription-only model. If you are running a professional photographic studio, then I'm sure it's worth its weight in gold. If you're just an amateur photographer out for the enjoyment, then an extortionate 1-year only licence makes no sense at all. Boo hiss.

The Walk (Serpent's Tail Classics)
The Walk (Serpent's Tail Classics)
by Robert Walser

5.0 out of 5 stars Strangely beautiful, strangely funny, 8 May 2014
Walser is one of those rare writers who sees things differently to everyone else. These minutely observed stories are striking, drily humorous, and - from the hyper-realist titular novella down to the semi-fantastical single-page micro-stories - always perfectly formed. They are timeless, haunting and absolutely unique.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riotous satire of modern life, 3 Mar 2014
This review is from: Eat My Heart Out (Paperback)
Pitch-perfect skewering of, well, pretty much everyone. The dialogue crackles along, the gags are timed to perfection, and underneath it all there's a commendable desire to redress the balance - calling out the pornification of sex and the objectification of women above all, this is exploitation-lit being reclaimed by an angry young feminist, and it's totally thrilling and utterly hilarious.

Train Dreams
Train Dreams
by Denis Johnson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.59

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compact novel, 3 Mar 2014
This review is from: Train Dreams (Paperback)
Short vignettes from the life of frontiersman-for-hire Robert Grainier in the American West make for a strangely moving and deeply haunting study of solitude and the hallucinatory nature of the natural world's majesty. Terrific - one of the best short novels I've read.

Pedro Páramo (Five Star)
Pedro Páramo (Five Star)
by Juan Rulfo
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable, 29 Jan 2014
One of the most remarkable novels I've ever read. It's short - only 100-odd pages - but the most perfectly-formed piece of writing I've ever read. It was Rulfo's only novel - how, after all, could he have topped this?! Wonderful.
