5.0 out of 5 stars good stuff, 7 Jun 2013

If you like Iain M. Banks, or Cory Doctorow, you might like this as much as I did. Morden has great vision, a convincing creation, and is a good story teller.

If you like Iain M. Banks, or Cory Doctorow, you might like this as much as I did. Has a bit of a low in book 2, iirr, but overall he's got a great vision, a convincing creation, and is a good story teller. The next book in the series is good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars eat it up, then get Homeland for dessert, 26 Mar 2013

This review is from: Little Brother (Paperback)
One of my favourite books of the last few years, Little Brother exposes the bankruptcy of much of the mainstream "security", anti-sharing and surveillance agendas. Bruce Schneier, Lawrence Lessig and the like have done similar jobs from a technical and crytographic point-of-view; Doctorow's books are a lovely complement that wrap up the story of our modern descent into 1984 territory in engaging fiction. The sequel to this book, Homeland, is recently published, and even better to my mind. I also loved last year's Pirate Cinema.

Great stuff!

1.0 out of 5 stars basic intro to netduino and pachube/cosm, not IoT, 18 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Disappointing. Almost nothing in the book describes the concept of the IoT, or even practical applications. It should be called "some simple code examples for the Netduino and an example of connecting to Pachube (now Cosm)". The Netduino itself seems a poor choice -- double the cost of Raspberry Pi with none of hte general purpose abilities, and a strong leaning towards closed M$ environments (the world's worst embedded software ecosystem?).
