4.0 out of 5 stars Make sure you format correctly for large files, 11 May 2015

Good machine, slightly uninspiring interface, but does the job. Quick note that in order to transfer files larger than 4GB make sure you format the drive as Ex-Fat (which works on Windows and on OS X.6.5 and later).

Good for the price, but doesn't 'click' into place easily and is rather brittle. Overall good for use with one or two thin wires.

4.0 out of 5 stars Info for completists and DVD upgraders, 31 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The films are for the most part timeless entertainments, however for the completists and the Ultimate Edition DVD upgraders amongst you, let me add some info that might be of interest:

- The menus are the same as the Ultimate Edition DVDs, except that they don't feature the film titles (odd), BUT Quantum of Solace keeps the menu from the original release, so it's the old Blu-Ray with the new disc artwork (lazy)
- Casino Royale is now a '15' and is therefore the 'uncut' version
- Tomorrow Never Dies is now a '12', but upon review I can't see much of a change from the '15' rated DVD. Either it was reclassified by the BBFC, or I missed the restored cuts
- Not all the films feature the Lowry restorations, most notably Goldeneye which sadly contains a bland transfer
- All the old UE DVD special features are brought across for each film
- Casino Royale's special features also include those from the Deluxe DVD Edition (except for the commentary) which was a nice surprise as they weren't advertised
- The 'Bonus Disc' is indeed a waste of space, so I chose to buy "Everything or Nothing" to replace it, and it works well for this 50th anniversary set.

So not perfect, but certainly worth the investment for the true Bond completist.

Good for doing the job, but it didn't come with any instructions and subsequently not too clear how to make the most of the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and great fun from comic greats, 21 Feb. 2007
I don't know why it is that I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue has a much bigger reputation than it's predecessor I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again. It was the one of the bridges for it's performers between the Cambridge footlights and Monty Python, The Goodies etc.

Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie's scripts were fantastic, particularly the Prune Plays. On the box it promises "Bad puns." Well, they are groaners, but they're definitely clever and witty. If you imagine the funniest word games on I'm Sorry...Clue, like "Will you welcome please Mr & Mrs..," well they originated from this show.

The box set features strong episodes on disks 1 and 3, and a more celebratory tone on disk 2 (with the first rather timid episode and the 25th anniversary reunion). Disk 4 is more conventional ISIRTA, but that's maybe becuase I grew up listening to the episodes on disk 1 and 3. A fifth volume is available and I cannot wait to hear that!

If you want to listen to clasic BBC radio comedy and you want to have FUN and a good, politically incorrect laugh, then this is the box set for you. I'm glad the BBC released this on CD, next stop Radio Active please!

3.0 out of 5 stars Wait for the HD release, 12 Sept. 2006
I held off buying the King Kong DVD in anticipation of this release. However, I was horrified to read that there was only 13 minutes of extra footage and no DTS-ES. Frankly, the latter is unforgivable.

What's the point of calling a DVD deluxe if it clearly is not? I shall look forward to the High Def releases which, if they've got any sense, will have the Theatrical and Extended versions on the same disk, with high def sound (like DTS-HD) to match the high def picture.

As for the film, I really like it. I'm not one of those who becry the running time, but I do think that had they got rid of the redundant Jamie Bell storyline, they could have included more of the scenes and effects shots we saw in the trailer, which were cut for time.

The new scenes are mixed - the swamp scene is the best one, but some of the others are not so good. A short scene which takes the mickey out of the army being roused to fight, is quite hilarious. Some of the 'added material' is simply a shot here and there. It doesn't slow the film significantly because it's so long to begin with.

The impact of the experience was dampened by the sound - the high pitch whine that occasionally appears on bog standard 5.1 tracks was here, as was the muffled 'loud moments' such as roaring and explosions. Had it had the DTS-ES track the windows would have shook, instead I turned the volume up. This is the biggest problem with the release.

On the other hand the extra features, particularly on disk 3, are brilliant and definitive. But again, to my mind, why didn't they put the extras which were on disk 1&2, on a 4th disk so that they could fit the DTS track and charge even more for it?!

A missed opportunity.

5.0 out of 5 stars To put the record straight, 1 Jun. 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Yes I too hate endless re-releases of films. However, the James Bond Ultimate Edition set is really worth it for people (like me, who didn't snap the older DVDs) to buy this set if they so wish.

The reasons are clear; the new restoration process by the world's leading frame by frame restorer apparently makes the films look much more recent. They have all remastered DTS tracks, which will upset those who like mono, but will delight DTS lovers - myself one of them.

The new extras are probably not that much more exclusive than we had before, but the fact that they are including the old extras means you're not missing anything. Also, Licence To Kill, Goldeneye and Tommorow Never Dies are uncut, meaning we get to see the proper violence that was cut by the UK censors. I think OHMSS is also going to be the correct print (which must mean the old DVD was the wrong print - but I'm not sure).

I know people who purchased the old set will be annoyed, but for those who didn't this is probably the best time to get the Bond series - the obvious HD release will be amazingly expensive and will not increase the levels of picture quality to justify paying 5x as much. So, I think this is the best release to get for the next few years. The purists and the current DVD owners will be horrified, but hey - don't they know Hollywood by now?

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant epic on Superbit, 30 May 2006
This review is from: Lawrence Of Arabia [DVD] (DVD)
I realise the complaint the other reviewer has about the changeover being 10 minutes before the intermission. But once you get used to it, the sheer quality more than makes up for it.

Superbit DVDs are like a bridge between normal DVD and the next generation HD technology, in that the disk space is put over to superior picture and sound quality. Lawrence of Arabia was remastered and a high definition scan was taken from the original print. It's then the case of how much info the DVD can store which dictates how good the picture is going to be. So as there's no extras to be concerned with, that space is taken up with better resolution and DTS sound.

If, like me, you can watch the film on a large screen, it really is amazing. And with the DTS making the surround sound speakers work much better than Dolby, you really feel like you're in the desert with Lawrence. It's probably the greatest epic ever made, in that it's vision and it's ambition feels unattainable, yet here it is, Lawrence of Arabia, in all it's glory.
