Inept, what's all the fuss about?

One good track 'Count in Fives'. Shows what can happen if you make a few mates at NME!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, promising debut, 9 Mar. 2007
Just came accross this recently and remember hearing a track of theirs on myspace and was pretty impressed so I bought it. Where it is a great debut album is quite an odd mix of rocking tracks like 'Go Either Way' which is very Nirvanaesque and quite brilliant too! Then onto an almost Coldplayesque 'Sea of Trouble'. There is nothing wrong with that and adds variety (take note Kaiser Chiefs) to the album rather than pumping out 40mins of the same old, same old! The songs are well written and have great lyrics! Vocals are excellent. There are a lot of influences on these guys, Foo Fighters to add another.

Highlight tracks are 'Go Either Way' and 'Winter' (great lyrics).

All in great album that can be recommended. Also, the album sleeve photos are hilarious!

Go buy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars 'Nice' in a beige sort of way, 9 Mar. 2007
This review is from: Yours Truly, Angry Mob (Audio CD)
This is rather as anticipated. It is a nice but rather forgettable record with typical Kaiser Chiefs fomulaic dittys! Some tracks will go down well at festivals having a great time jumping about. That's about it though. No real stand out tracks, no real depth and 'Ruby' has been played to death on the radio and is now rather irritating!

Would say 'could do better' but to be honest I don't think they can! Just OK in a beige sort of way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! I read this was 'mediocre'!!!??, 9 Mar. 2007
This review is from: Make Another World (Audio CD)
I had heard some mediocre reviews about Idlewilds new album before it came out and all I can say is that they were clearly listening to a different one from the one I have just bought! There is a little more rock vs Scottish folk going on in some places (particularly 'You And I Are Both Away') which adds to the atmosphere. The guitars seem grittier than usual too! It is not quite '100 Broken Windows' but not far off it. I love it when you get surprised by a band you really like! Stand out tracks are the opener 'In Competition for the First Time', 'A Ghost in the Arcade' and 'Once In Your Life'. Idlewild are a quality product with soul! If you have never heard them before this would be a great start off point! It's worth every single penny you will pay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Album, 15 Feb. 2007
This review is from: Back To Black (Audio CD)
Not been too many albums yet in 2000s that I would say would be future classics but Amy has got one! Love her music, love her attitude, love her talent, love her uniqueness!! This girl has got 'it' by the bucket loads (take note Joss Stone as you are just making a fool of yourself)!

Looking forward to see how Amy does. Great talent for the future of British music.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than you might think!, 31 Jan. 2007
This review is from: Hats Off To The Buskers (Audio CD)
OK, I'd heard all the hype, heard 'Same Jeans' 24 hours a day on Radio 1 (smallest playlist on the air!) and thought must be patriotic and get The View. I thought they would be just an Arctic Monkeys replica but I must admit, as much as I like the AMs, The View offer just a little bit more. Lyrically they are equally as good but musically they are more accomplished. Yes, there are echoes of bands gone by, 'The Smith', 'Oasis', 'Dodgy' but they have their own sound which makes stand out.

Lyrically things can be playful one minute, grim the next! Like life maybe!!

There are no weak tracks but for me standouters are 'Face For The Radio','Skag Trendy','Wasted Little DJs' and the incredible 'Wasteland'.

If you have any qualms about buying this, forget them as the album may not be what u are expecting! Bring on Summer Festivals!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I want Cod, not Haddock and Chips, 14 Jan. 2007
This review is from: In Cod We Trust (Audio CD)
This is fresh! Ghostdigital has as one of it's members the one and only, Einar Orn, Bjork's wailing sidekick in The Sugarcubes and he is as irritating as usual! That is his charm I think!

What is special about this recording is the overall sound. It is like punky electronic music, quite strange actually but very refreshing!

Best tracks are 'Not Clean' hilarious lyrics about cod! 'Sense of Reason' and 'Northern Lights' also stand out tracks.

Best way to describe this record is Kraftwerk meet The Prodigy and this is the outcome. If you are looking for something different this is well worth investigating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sounds like this can drive a man insane!, 4 Dec. 2006
Weird but wonderful album from the talented Mugison. It is a cocophony of sounds! One minute it is sounding vaguely 'Massive Attack' the next like Iceland's answer to Damien Rice and then just out and out weird when Mugison declares that he is 'Sad as a Truck' then belts into some insane Beck sounding rant. It's very catchy!! Then, if you want to be scared to death by the sister of Damien then listen to 'Salt'. Very eery and atmospheric. If Mugison were to screech 'Boo' half way through you would need new trousers!! All in, interesting from this experimentalist or just mentalist! You should buy to decide for yourself!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good DAB PLayer, 14 Nov. 2006
This player is my first encounter with DAB and it is great the way it opens a whole new world of radio stations.

Sound is very clear but the speakers could be better. It is better for spoken word than music but still great sound.

It's good that you can still receive all the BBC FM radio stations as well so get Radio 1 as well as Digital 6Music.

Was never previously a big fan of spoken word programmes but with clarity of DAB it makes them more appealing and some of comedy on BBC7 is great!

All in a great portable player than can run on batteries as well as mains supply. Well worth it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor effort, 5 Nov. 2006

Sorry, but I am afraid the Killers have hit "difficult second album" problem! This is dull, samey, unimaginative and a band void of any new ideas. Never mind they did great out of their first album. 'Uncle Jonny' is a good track. Only reason it gets 2* and not 1*!
