Worth it just for the A sides at this price. Great sound, great "big" production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging TV, and a real bargain, 10 Jun. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A friend recommended Jonathan Creek, which I'd somehow managed to miss on TV. This box set is mega-value and will keep you entertained (and stretch the mind) for hours on end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film, 10 Jun. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nowhere Boy [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I saw this first in the cinema and loved the emotional pull of the film. A real sense of John being caught between two strong, but very different, women, Aunt Mimi and Julia. Great cast, great period music (including a wonderful re-creation of the Quarrymen's visit to the recording studio). Some nice deleted scenes too on the disc. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even fabber in mono..., 6 Oct. 2009
This review is from: The Beatles In Mono (Audio CD)
This is how it should be. I get it now. The fabs in MONO, just as they intended. There is an organic feel to the music here, which dissolves a little in stereo. Some of the tracks hardly vary at all from their stereo counterparts, but when there are significant differences, they are always better in mono. For me the stand out tracks include: "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" which has John Lennon's vocal with a dreamy quality that isn't present on the stereo mix - "Tomorrow Never Knows" is far more "unhinged" in mono, with louder drums and louder, wilder effects which leap out of the speakers - The single mix of "Paperback Writer" has the guitars cranked up to eleven. The packaging, too, is superb and far better than the stereo remasters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value , but not as pristine as billed, 4 Sept. 2004
You cannot argue with the original and best series of Star Trek. Even more than thirty years on, this is still groundbreaking stuff. You forgive the occasional inconsistencies, both with the effects and with the stories. All Season One spisodes are presented here, in original transmission order. There are bags of extras, and it comes in a snappy bright yellow box. Excellent value for an eight DVD set. So far, so good. But, on the box it says "beautifully remastered in pristine condition" - well, that is just not the case. The general quality is good, colours are strong and the picture is stable - but, there are plenty of picture scratches and "sparkle", which even a rudimentary clean-up should have removed. So, that makes it only four stars from me. Worth buying, but with a little more effort it could have been perfect - there's no excuse really...
