Philips DVP3990/05 HDMI 1080p Upscaling DVD Player with DivX Ultra & USB Playback

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, 11 Nov 2013
Arrived on Monday after ordering on Friday. Installed and working in 5 minutes including the multi- region hack which is simplicity itself. HDMI certainly gives better quality pictures and all for such a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, 24 Dec 2012
Tense gripping and never predictable. A superb series wonderfully acted and directed with pace and excellent camerawork. Don't understand why this has not been bought by a major UK channel. Much better than many US imports and certainly up there with The Wire.

4.0 out of 5 stars another good album, 28 Jan 2010
This review is from: Falling Down A Mountain (Audio CD)
I agree with the previous reviewer that a new Tindersticks album is definitely a cause for joy, but they are wrong in suggesting this is not true for the music; there a couple of decidedly upbeat (dare one even say happy, or optimistic?) tracks. Maybe not as good as some of the classic early albums but definitely worth adding to any collection

5.0 out of 5 stars better and better, 28 Jan 2010
Editors are a hugely underrated band in my opinion. Each album has been excellent in its own way but they just get progressively better and better!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album, but.., 9 Oct 2009
This review is from: All Hour Cymbals (Audio CD)
This is a great album, definitely worth buying, but they are an even better live band, and as others have said regarding their performance on Jools Holland this album actually fails to do them justice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Short-changed, 14 Sep 2009
Yes this is a "curious history" because it isn't really a history of death at all; more a collection of slightly interesting, macabre facts. But if you really want a history, you would be much better off paying a few more pounds for A Brief History of Death (Blackwell Brief Histories of Religion) by Douglas Davies. i promise you you will feel less short-changed!!

Along with I, Claudius this is BBC gold. Outstanding British television drama at its best. Great writing, great acting and great production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful!, 19 Aug 2009
This review is from: Shimmers: A Best Of (Audio CD)
Don't take any notice of the previous reviewer, this band is unbelievably wonderful. Yes there are hints of Nick Cage, but this band is most like Tindersticks. If you like them you certainly won't be disappointed. But if you are looking for a definitive collection of their best work, the earlier Watermarks collection is arguably even better than this one. But either would be a very good place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely superb!, 19 Aug 2009
This review is from: Ended Up A Stranger (Audio CD)
I agree with the previous reviewer. Just like Tindersticks, why are this band not recognised and given the credit they deserve? And I think this is possibly one of, if not the, best album of their 15 albums so far! Certainly a great album to start with if you have never heard them before.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a discovery!, 19 Aug 2009
As a long time Tindersticks fan who has been totally unable to understand why they have never really made it and been recognised as the great band they are, I am overjoyed to discover this similarly brilliant yet unrecognised band from the US that i didn't even know existed, but has apparently been going for over 17 years. And to have their whole back catalogue to explore! And what better place to start than this definitive collection. Can't recommend it highly enough!
