I remember having this book read to me as a child, and that surely speaks volumes, now i'm in my thirties. I now have a nephew who is keen to hear tales and stories from around the world, and this book is a favourite. The charming pattern of the writing is a real joy. And as a reader, almost forms a melodic rhythm as you work your way through the pages. The characters are larger than life, especially "Peg leg Horace, Fingers Maurice and the Villainous Grandma Swag". Children become caught up in the flow, and are desperate for the pages to turn. It really is a lovely book, and i'm sure there is a young boy i know, who will be reading it to his children, when he's older.
