5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, 13 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an excellent book about the Normandy campaign as fought in the hedge row country facing the American forces as they battled out of the landing zone.

The book covers both sides of the conflict but it is the German stuff, which will appeal to most readers, and it is very good.

The account of the Panzer Lehr counter attack is the best I've read and really helped but the battle into perspective.

The photos are very good especially the panthers of Panzer Lehr.

Well worth the money and a good buy regardless of its diminutive size at approximately 160 pages.

This is an excellent book which covers all the WWII versions of the Jerrycan including British, Italian and American versions.

I wish I had bought the book sooner, a must for any military vehicle modeller.

Full of photos, descriptions, colour referrence and more.

Well worth my money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 13 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is not as good as the Combat Supremacy book but makes a good shelf partner.

The book has some excellent photos of the interior and has a more technical approach than the combat supremacy book, they really do go well together and with the four titles by panzer tracts (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4)are the only books you will ever need to identify and understand this fantastic vehicle.

Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monster book, 13 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is huge, it is the thickest book on my shelves and is a struggle to hold when reading, I initially looked at it whilst in bed and had to prop it up on a pillow because the weight was making my stomach hurt.

The book is full of photos far too many to count but take my word there are lots of them, general crew shots, personalities, vehicles its all in here.

The book is printed in German and if you can read the language it has to be a monster bargain, if you can't it is fantastic value just for the photos.

I honestly can't understand how the publisher is making a profit the shear substance of the book is worth the cover price.

This is worth anyones money who is interested in the subject matter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 13 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an excellent and extremely interesting book.

I bought it because of the excellent reviews and read the whole book in three nights, it has its flaws but the do not distract too much from the overall product.

My main gripe is the book is structured with first hand accounts and splattered with photos of individuals who served in the unit but there is no correlation between the written material and the photos.

I would have also liked to see more photos of the vehicles used by the unit there absence are a bit detriment to the book.

The written accounts can also bounce about a bit and I felt they were sometimes a bit out of sync.

Overall the book is very good and a worthy purchase for anyone interested in the subject or WWII.

5.0 out of 5 stars If only they had made more, 29 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is worth every penny they ask for it, EXCELLENT.

If you are remotely interested in the subject you must buy this, I missed it when it was on the TV but enjoyed it on DVD so much my only disapointment was closing the box when it was finished.

They just don't make stuff like this anymore, I'd be one of the first to buy if they did and recommend the box set to everyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Old referrence, 29 Jan 2011
This is an old book with very old referrence material, which I would only buy if it was very cheap.

Spend the same money and buy the three titles on the subject published by Panzer Tracts, you will have three times the accurate up to date information you need than you will get from this title.

Only of any real value to make up the set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent even if pricey, 29 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have picked this book up at model shows many times and put it back because of the price, I don't mind paying tens of pounds for books but they have to be worth it and this one never hit the mark.

I saw it on amazon for a reasonable price and bit the bullet, after studying the book I have to admit I was wrong, this book is worth the original cover price.

It is only when you have had the time to study the photos at length that you realise the depth of information they contain.

My hobby is model building, I have an extensive library of over 500 books and this is one of my favorit purchases, if you like it buy it.

If you have not seen the inside of the book before, it covers mainly troops but there is a good portion of vehicle images about 45% of the book.

the photos are stunning, true colour they look like they were taken yesterday, they truely bring WWII to life and are a must to anyone interseted in the Africakorps or WWII or model building.

Highly recommended, I only wish there was a vol 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars average book, 29 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you are looking for armour photos pass this by, what is in you will have sen before or they are not worth looking at.

This is one of the poorer books in this series, the authors written text is for boy scout weekend camp fire stories, he just doesn't know his subject very well.

The photos mainly cover soldiers, horse drawn transport and the French civilians. This was Blitzkrieg where are the light panzers and other vehicles of the panzer units.

The photo quality is poor and I had the feeling through out the book it had been thrown together to fill a whole in the range, no where near as good as the Stug book in the same range or for that matter the book on military motorcycles.

Buy only if you must and its under £5 it just isn't worth a great deal more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, 29 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The only reason I gave this four stars is because the author uses some markings I've never seen or read about before and he gives no photo credit for their inclusion.

Be aware this title only covers a specific time frame, I would have been more than happy if the author had written a larger book to cover the whole combat period as what he has done is very good.

I wish there was more books like this, it is of use to modellers and history buffs interested in the subject and well worth the cover price.

Unit structures are explained, vehicle markings are represented and some units are presented in good role ddetail to explain their status.

The downside is the book just isn't big enough, the author must have been sufferred chopping his work to make it fit such a small book.

Its a very good small book which could have been a definitive large book on the subject

Worth the money I spent and recommended to anyone interested in the subject.
