5.0 out of 5 stars Madame Bovary..., 23 Nov. 2011
Reading 'Madame Bovary' recently I decided to learn French and happend on this course. It's an excellent course, modern with a sense of humour. I tried a few other courses and this was the best.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Derby..., 9 July 2011
This was okay, but if this book was a horse race it would be a short sprint on a wet Wednesday evening in Wolverhampton and not the Epsom Derby. I must admit that I was both held and slightly fascinated by the book and deeply bored with it. It feels, for quite a lot of the book, like an endless self-congratulatory essay on Patrick Veitch's wins. The book gives me the impression that the writer does not have a very well developed sense of humour. At the end I warmed to him more when he described how he rebuilt his life after his troubles, and you get the hint that he becomes aware of how the betting life can often feel like an empty one. However, good on him for having the courage of his convictions. Worth a read if you love punting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dull and boring, 3 July 2011
Not very well-written. Seems vain and a wee bit pretentious, self-obsessed and plain dull. Baffles me how some writers get published.
