3.0 out of 5 stars watch the film first, but well worth a listen, 13 July 2009
Those who enjoyed the music in John Carney's modern musical 'Once' will no doubt be pleased to see all the songs accounted for with extras. Admittedly, listening to this CD from start to finish cannot quite match the brilliance of the way in which the songs are presented in the film. Perhaps due to the ordering of the tracks, something has been lost in transferring the material from movie reel to CD, and they fail to gather the same momentum or impact.

However, that said, there are some real gems in the album. Rightfully the triumphant and touching 'Falling Slowly' wins the accolades, while a powerful acoustic version of 'Say It To Me Now' will also be a favourite for many. But amongst these flagships, there are excellent tracks that did not feature so prominently in the film. The title track 'Once' is beautifully arranged and performed with echoes of Turin Brakes at their finest. Barely touched in the motion picture, 'Leave' is a real highlight, moving with ease from a gentle acoustic ballad into a more hard hitting indy strummer at the end of the track.

Overall, this is a good collection of songs inspired from routes in folk music and the indy and rock-pop bands of the 90s. Most listeners will appreciate.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the great sporting landmarks, just as it happened, 13 July 2009
If you are looking to actually re-live the Wimbledon Final of 2008, this BBC DVD production does the trick perfectly.

Aside from the coverage during rain delays of course, this is the Federer v Nadal epic exactly as it went out live and on air at the time. For anyone who prefers extra build up to be included, I should warn that this DVD is pretty limited in that department, with only a rather corny and reading of Rudyard Kipling's 'If' to create suspense. However, with the quality of the tennis played, the intensity of the competition, and the excitement of the twists and turns this match provided, you will soon be captivated, completely forgetting that you are watching a recording, rather than the live event.

A monumental contest between two of the sports' all time greats, this is an essential for any tennis fan's collection.
