5.0 out of 5 stars BEATS FAWLTY AND CURB, 23 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Whenever anyone asked me what my favourite comedy was (that should be if anyone asked me since nobody actually did) I always said Curb Your enthusiasm and Fawlty Towers were inseparably tied at the top. They're now joint second, behind the astoundingly funny, stunningly produced and written and sensationally acted Veep.
God bless the team for creating such joyous TV, especially the wonderful wonderful Julia.

In other words, buy it, or miss the comedy treat of treats !!

5.0 out of 5 stars OUR LOST SPORTING HERO, 10 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Graham Hill was and remains my sporting hero. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, before or since has managed to come close to Graham's amazing blend of immense bravery, astounding achievement, huge warmth, and fantastic sense of humour.
This book, which I urge all F1 fans, indeed sports fans to buy, shows just what we all lost in that terrible plane crash in 1975.
The book is both fascinating and very funny, a wonderful reminder of a man who, had he lived would I'm convinced have become THE most popular TV celebrity we've ever had.
I'm still waiting for 1967 -75. Any sign ?

3.0 out of 5 stars WHERE'S THE MESCALIN ?, 27 Feb 2014
This otherwise brilliant selection is hugely undermined for me by the ridiculous omission of one classic episode.

There were 3 'Famous Five' programmes, all wonderful, yet the middle one, possibly the funniest of the lot 'Five Go Mad on Mescalin' is not here !!! This leaves some references in the fantastic 2012 episode unexplained.

WHY WHY WHY ???

5.0 out of 5 stars KEEP IT GOING !!!!, 22 Feb 2014
This review is from: Outnumbered - Series 5 [DVD] (DVD)
Outnumbered is one of the warmest, funniest series ever to have appeared on British TV.
I understand that its amazingly brilliant writers, Andy and Guy, feel that it needs to end because the children are getting too grown up.

Andy, Guy, NO ! No ! No ! No !

This series is as wonderfully funny as any of the others, the obvious changes as the children get older only makes it FUNNIER.
The parents' reaction to the children's developing views about life are fantastically funny too, so PLEASE KEEP WRITING.

No apparently civilised society should have to survive without a noe series of Outnumbered to look forward to !

Therefore, to anyone who's missed any of the new episodes, and indeed to everyone else, BUY THIS DVD !

5.0 out of 5 stars IF YOU LIKE GRAND PRIX HISTORY THE SIMPLE FACT IS THAT YOU MUST OWN THIS DVD., 16 Feb 2014
This is a magnificent documentary, with wonderful commentary by the hugely respected Ian Wooldridge.
It has many intriguing scenes with the fascinating and amazing Colin Chapman, and it's this documentary which features the immediate aftermath of Francois Cevert's terrible death.
There's also a great moment between Jackie Stewart and Ronnie Peterson after Jackie had outfoxed him at the start of the British Grand Prix before it was stopped following a multiple accident. (I've always thought that Jackie's start to this race was every bit as good as Senna's in Donnington in 1993).
Buy it !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN RUSH, 4 Feb 2014
A fantastic documentary, the real life depicted here is much better in my opinion than the unnecessary factual inaccuracies in the wildly overrated film 'Rush'
The main point is of course that Niki and James were personally very friendly, and each rated the other as a great driver.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BUT WHY THE CUTS ?, 4 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Weekend Of A Champion [DVD] (DVD)
A tremendous film, with especially high quality picture and sound, I also like the occasional subtitles and the naming of drivers like Siffert and Rodriguez.
Two things however stop this being, for me, a '5 Star' DVD.
First, there are some cuts from the original. I wonder why, and who authorised them ? For example, the original contains more from the 'prize giving' scene, and two scenes in which Jackie's sex life in the days before a Grand Prix is discussed !!
Second, I was hoping for a more interesting contribution from Jackie and Polanski as they looked back at the times and the film, for example a full commentary would have been wonderful. Also, were there really no deleted scenes, especially featuring drivers like Graham Hill (always hilarious and interesting) and Francois Cevert talking ?
That said, this is still a great DVD, a must for GP history fans.
