Fantastic little product that works at least equally as well as other systems on which it is modelled yet it much easier to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars The answer, 6 Oct 2007

It's very difficult to review a classic.

All I'll say is this ... if we can learn to let go and to love, then everything will be ok!

Peace out : )

The Catcher in the Rye

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're ageist you're not going to like this book, 6 Oct 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Catcher in the Rye (Paperback)
I was surprised to read the variety of reviews this book has received. It is, quite simply, an astounding portrayal of adolescence. The possible reason then for mixed reviews? Read on ...

If you're an adolescent you'll identify with this book. If you're an adult you won't. However, if you're one of those rare breed of adults who can still remember what it was like to be young, and you haven't turned into a judgemental old person who forgets that they too did all of the things that they denigrate the young for, then you'll love it too.

Wouldn't the world be a better place if it weren't for the generation gap? Adults - we don't know better! If we did there wouldn't be adolescents like the subject of this book.

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
by Dr Maya Angelou
Edition: Paperback
Price: 8.36

5.0 out of 5 stars Why does the caged bird sing?, 4 Oct 2007
It's simply this - he's deliriously happy that he's only a spectator in the madness of life. Did Maya secretly wish that she could observe her life from the safety of a cage instead of having the starring role? In fact is that how she coped at all?

Fantastic story. Full of racial prejudice (from both sides). But it's in examining the reasons for that prejudice that your empathy for Maya really grows. All kinds of parallels can be drawn between this book and The Color Purple and To Kill A Mocking Bird.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must see, 28 Aug 2007
I think everyone should watch Human Traffic at least once. Although I don't know of many people who don't watch it over and over again and are able to quote the script word for word.

This is the flip side to the political view of drugs culture. Human Traffic shows a pretty average weekend in the lives of people who like to pop pills and party hard after a crappy week at work. It's funny, it's touching and if you've ever partied without the need for legal drugs then you'll find lots to identify with.

What the politicians don't tell you is that it's the world that they've created that makes this form of escapism so necessary. But don't get me started on that one ...

My advice ... stick this in the dvd player, skin up and enjoy.

The Picture of Dorian Gray (Penguin Popular Classics)
The Picture of Dorian Gray (Penguin Popular Classics)
by Oscar Wilde

5.0 out of 5 stars Vanity, 27 Aug 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Oscar Wilde was not afraid of the dark side of human nature and I'm quite sure he knew his demons very well.

Dorian Gray was a susceptible and easily led young man who believed his own press.

Fantasic story. Read it as such or delve deeper and you will find a much darker thread that will perhaps be visible the next time you look in the mirror.

Our society, so caught up in the aesthetic, would perhaps benefit much from the lesson that is contained in the Picture of Dorian Gray.

The Secret Message of Jesus
The Secret Message of Jesus
by Brian D. McLaren
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars From acceptance to understanding, 27 Aug 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm not a Christian. Having said that I do believe that Jesus Christ is the most perfect being to have ever walked on the face of the earth. And I also believe that he died that I may be saved. On a daily basis I do my best to put my trust in God.

However, Christianity for me has always been about being good enough for heaven or being doomed to hell. And I'm sorry but I don't accept that. And that's why I don't call myself a Christian.

This book will take seekers away from the evangelistic portrayal of Christianity to a new and more encompassing understanding of why God sent his only son to pay such an awful price for our sins.

This book is much more than another attempt to get us hooked on religion. Indeed I don't think it would have too much success if that was its aims. Instead Mr McLaren uncovers what Jesus was about, what he stood for and what his vision for the world consisted of. Reading it with acceptance will take you to a new understanding of what it is to be human.

This is a fresh approach and it works.

Cannabis: A History
Cannabis: A History

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, 23 July 2007

This review is from: Cannabis: A History (Paperback)
Excellent book on the subject of Cannabis. Martin Booth looks at the subject from a common-sense angle, sadly lacking in the world of politics.

If you're a cannabis user then you already know the common-sense approach. If you're not a user and prefer to investigate topics rather than blindly accept the view of the political world then read this book.

Found it really helpful when completing a recent assignment on the effects that cannabis legalisation would have on UK society so there's lots in there to send academics off in search of gems as well!

I was sufficiently impressed by this book to write to Thom Hartmann to thank him for writing it! He replied.

Buy it. A review is only someone else's opinion. However, my opinion is that not reading this book will mean you miss out on one of the fundamental reasons that you exist at all ....

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but not ghd's either, 15 Dec 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
When I bought mine they were only half this price. And good value at that. But at the current price (70.00 at the time of writing) you'll be disappointed.

I wouldn't recommend using them all the time as they're very drying. Fine if your hair's not too wavy but if it is they won't give the results you want.

You'll find ghd's for this price or cheaper if you shop around and you'll get the results you want.
